    Hi All,

I bought an Acer 8943G recently and have been upgrading it and trying to get into as speedy and efficient as possible.

The Blu Ray was working fine but since I last used it I've performed the following actions and I suspect that during the removal of bloatware I've deleted the software that runs the Blu Ray.

Removed as much Bloatware as I could using Revo Uninstaller
    Installed 4GB more RAM
Installed an SSD as primary drive (used Acronis to clone the HDD and have replaced HDD with SSD)

Windows 7 and the machine in general appears to be running really well now.

However I went to watch a Blu Ray last night, the disc didn't autorun and then both Windows Media and VLC Media are telling me they cannot play the disc as the disc was written in an unsupported format.

I tried the basic troubleshooting and the Windows Media troubleshooting and they didnt find any problems.

I suspect I've either deleted the Blu Ray software altogether or deleted the drivers that allow the DVD player to play Blu Ray discs.

I should also add the the Restore to Factory settings doesnt appear to be working since I last ran Revo. [Note to self - don't be quite so gung ho about deleting suspected Bloatware next time! Doh!!]

Aside from going through the time consuming process of getting Acer to send me the factory settings boot disc, and then having to go through the whole install & removal of the programs I want & don't, are there any quicker alternatives?

How do I find out what the Blu Ray player software was and will I be able to download it again?

Or is it just a case of finding the correct drivers?

Any advice would be gratefully received.

    Cheers,
    Alan

Blue ray software from Acer (Acer Arcade) is not available for download.
If your e-recovery doesn’t work from Windows you should reboot- go to BIOS to verify that D2D Recovery is enabled- then reboot again and use ALT+F10 when you see Acer logo during BIOS POST.
And when you do recover your system burn recovery DVDs just in case.
Also remember to back up all your data before using e-recovery.

Acer Arcade Deluxe probably got flagged as bloatware by Revo, but it's the free Blu-ray player software that Acer provides.
Acer can't provide it online, but if you burned your Drivers & Applications disc using eRecovery, it should be on there.

Failing that, there is this site that has it for download. Get the full version, the second update listed, then use the LiveUpdate from within Arcade Deluxe to get the latest version from Cyberlink's servers (they're the ones that make the software).

    Thanks Guys,

I had another attempt at the Restore To Factory settings and it worked this time (previously it had failed saying there was no system image).

So the bad news is that I had to spend 5 hours last night restoring, deleting Bloatware (though being much more selective in what I deleted) and setting the lappy up again.

The good news is that my Blu Ray is functioning again and with the added bonus that the Windows 7 boot time is noticably better than it was prior to last nights install. [This time I didnt remove quite as many apps I don't know but I did use Revo to disable them from the autorun menu].

Hopefully thats me got a stable build to work with (and yup, have backed up both the factory settings and the current build).

    Cheers for the help.

    Alan

Our pleasure, Langkawi! If you've got an external hard drive, start using Windows Backup to create a system image of your C: partition for an easy recovery if things go sideways again.
