The keyboard on my wife's AS1410 is getting very stiff. You have to push the buttons very hard and delibriterly. The funny thing is, it isn't just a few buttons- it's pretty much all of them. Any idea what might cause this? How do I fix it? Is it hard to take these apart?

I tried blowing it with a can of air, but not much dirt came out.

Any advice is appreciated. There's just nothing out there still that has better performance per dollar than what I paid for this computer, so I really don't want to replace it yet.

Unfortunately in Acers, and other laptops most likely, little bits of goodness-knows-what often gets lodged under the keys, hair even can get wrapped around the interlocking pieces. To fix this you can take a semi-stiff paintbrush and gently brush under the keys, that will help dislodge whatever is in your keyboard. Be careful though, you can pop them off if you are too aggressive.

Do you mean physically stiff, as in hard to push ? or, they push easily but need a lot of pressure to activate ?

The first is as described above or even spillage of some kind.
Second is a problem with the switches themselves... and if they all are like that then I would say a design issue.

Instead of paying money for spraying cans and whatever, buy a new keyboard from Ebay at about 10-11$ install it(it takes 30 seconds-instructions on Youtube)and problem solved.I ve done it in both my 1410 and 1810 and the notebooks look new(even though the old keybords were working fine, they were just a little shiny).
