Hello all… I have a bit of a crisis on my hands and I hope that someone here can help. I have an out of warranty Acer 2012WLMI that I have been pretty with for a little over a year now.

The problem is that over the past week I noticed a crack that developed in the left hinge and it has progressively affected my display. At first it was just a little wiggle in the display when I first turned the machine and now the screen with completely scramble or go blank at the slightest touch of the screen.

Perhaps this is too simple, but what I think is happening is that somehow the cable/connection between the main unit and the screen has been compromised by the crack in the hinge.

My question is there any hope for repair? If so, any guesses on how much I am looking at or would I just be better off with a new computer?

Well, it sounds like you're having a problem with the connection all right...see if you can get a service manual for that series, so you can take it apart and verify the connection.

If you are not comfortable taking it apart yourself, I would see what a local computer center charges to fix it. ;)

    Thanks Chaz....

Here is an image of the crack. I would be willing to take it apart, but I am concerned with damaging the connection further. If it is just a case of having the damaged plastic causing the connection stress, could I might be able to apply some super glue or the like to close it up? Thanks...

I would still have a computer center look at it...as long as it is not too much $$.

SuperGlue might work, although I would be VERY careful...I would actually suggest getting plastic glue at a local crafts shop, that will work better for you.

Hey - I think I am to the point where I need to tear apart my laptop and see what there is to see. Can anyone suggest where I might be able to find a service manual for the Acer 2012?

    Thanks!
