Ok basically my problem is when I try to record from the Microphone, there is a loud hum and crackling noise in the recording. I can barely hear myself talk.
I recently discovered that if I turn my Screen off by pressing Fn+F6, the background noise immediately goes away. But this is impractical when using the Camera.
Does anyone know what to do?

And please no, "built in mics are cheap buy a external one comments"

Try checking out the Sound properties..right click on the volume meter in the taskbar and (if Vista) choose Recording devices.. Highlight your default microphone and choose properties, you might have to turn down the mic boost and/or volume in the Custom/Levels tab.

Weird, though, it's as if the LCD screen is interfering with the mic.. the internal mic is beside your webcam, right?

Yeah, the problem has something to do with my screen.

In that case you might have to send in the computer for repair.

Nope kisetsu17 that's not the problem at all.

Leroy here is the issue / what is causing it.

Intergrated audio and microphones tied to the motherboard use your CPU / processor to decode and process the information. All onboard audio is this way regardless. To test this turn your audio WAY up but leave your mic disabled. If you move your mouse you should hear a "buzz" or digital background noise.

Here is some more info on that - http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=move+mouse+and+speakers+buzz&btnG=Search&aq=f&oq=&aqi=

Very common problem, not much can be done about it. The one solution for the mic is to actually "mute" it, but the device can still input audio coming into the device (odd I know). I've done this on my 5672 countless times... that way I don't get that annoying audio feedback loop.

You have misunderstood entirely what my problem is. This has to do with making recordings, and having the monitor cause interference and adding a loud hum and crackle noise in the recorded audio. So muting the Mic is stupid as thats the primary tool I need.
This is not a normal feature of the Laptop, because others with the same model don't have this problem.

EDIT: I've added a small recording of myself, so you can hear the problem for yourself.
And heres a YouTube video where its working perfectly http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IgvUTJr5k7w

Sorry I can't listen to the attachments right now. Although, when you use your mic, do you actually hear yourself from the speakers? Might be having a feedback or something. The thing is, what SSX4Life is saying is that you could mute that, at least I think that's what he's saying.

Although I think it really is a hardware problem. Have it checked or something to make sure, also it could be that the mic is busted and that the electrical current going to the screen is interfering somehow.

I would like to get it checked out but I'm have trouble with Acer's support. After 8 email replies from them
They seem to be either really stupid or just dead set on concluding its not a problem with the Laptop.
They had me do a recovery even when I told them it was messed up right out of the box, Then they suggested I move the microphone away from the monitor, then they referred me to Gateway's support site. (LOL) Then they told to do a recovery again.

Am I expecting too much from them? I assume these are the guys to contact to get an RMA, or is it another email address?

Had the same problem on an Acer 6530G. Microphone seemed to pick up only crackles; thought it might be a harware problem. Went to the Acer website and installed the Realtek audio driver, and the microphone worked perfectly afterwards.

If you're referring to the 6.0.1.5888 driver for Windows 7 64-bit, it didn't help me at all.
