    Hi Guys,

I have an Acer TravelMate C312xmi and when I insert an SD card into the SD card slot nothing happens, how do I use this? Using XP SP2, fully updated. In Device Manager under 'Secure Digital Host Controllers', I have 'SDA Standard Compliant SD Host Controller Vendor' which shows as working, yeah right!

    Any help most appreciated.

    Thanks.

Try deleting the device from device manager and having it re-detected.

Not to sound stupid but if device manager says
the controller is working maybe it's
an issue with the sd card not the controller.

Try a different brand of sd card to see if that works.

Thanks for the answers. Have tried various cards, none work. Don't want to upgrade yet.

SP3 is not an upgrade,, it's just an update... symantics... i know,,

i have ran SP3 since release candidate 2 came out and have had 0 problems

just create a restore point before beginning and if it turns bad just use system restore from safe mode if you have to,,

    just my 3:45 am rambeling

    i'm off to bed,,

    hope you get it solved

    later,
    bigO

Are you sure that it includes the SDHC hotfix which was only released this year?

Back to the original question: Are you using SD (up to 2GB) or SDHC (4GB or more). SD should work fine without any patches or fixes and the card should show up as another drive.

Did you try looking in Disk Management (My Computer > Manage > Disk Management). The SD card will not show up as another drive if it is unformatted. You should also see an SD device under Disk Drives in Device Manager.

Has anyone solved this problem? I bought the Acer Extensa 5620-6266 for my Dad for his birthday. I downgraded (or upgraded, rather) from Vista to XP. Installed all the drivers and it seemed to work well. But now, when my Dad tries to use an SD card (the one I'm testing on right now is a 2G SD card) it seems to show up in My Computer but then when you click on it, it wants to format. When you tell it to format, it says it can't be formated. I've put this same card in my Acer Aspire 5050 and it detects and reads it perfectly, no problems. I'm not quite sure where the problem is and wondered if any of you had managed to come up with a solution.

    Thanks
