I have an Acer Aspire 6920G, and sometimes in certain applications the special characters are engaged. So instead of typing something like / I get é or ` instead of '

    ' instead of <
    . instead of >

    etc....

I end up having to close and re-open the app in order to fix the problem.

It's not a language problem...it only happens 'sometimes'.

you must be hitting some kind of short-cut keys.
what programme are you using when this happens ?
or does it happen when using your browser.

When using Firefox, IRC, MSN or Microsoft word. I can't imagine what I'd be hitting to make it happen though, seeing as it goes away after I've restarted the program.

I wonder if you could be getting temporary corruption of some character tables or pointers to tables.

As for what would cause it, perhaps some software going a bit rogue - are you maxed out on memory or some critical windows system resource? Software can struggle when handling boundary conditions.

Is there anything reported in the system event logs? (Accessible from control panel)

And as a software person I can't pass up the opportunity to try to blame the hardware - does this happen when the machine is very hot? :)

When I first got my computer, I actually had to turn off numlock or scroll lock as the regular keys wouldn't work.

does the same errors occur when using a USB keyboard?

have you tried that? just for troubleshooting purposes..

if it were my laptop doing that,, i'd contact ACER if it is under warranty
sounds like it could be indicitative of a more serious problem to come!
