    Hiya,
My Acer 3003 laptop started dying a few weeks ago. When windows loads, the keyboard and mouse stop responding. System restores worked for a while, but then they stopped working!
At this point, the cursor and keyboard responded fine in safe mode.
In my idiotic lunacy, I figured using the recovery discs was a good idea.
    OH DEAR!!!
All was going fine, finished using the recovery discs, but now the cursor and keyboard crashes when I'm going into windows for the first time!
So b4 I can agree to terms and conditions, my controls freeze!
Safe mode/debugging mode no longer work, cos it says installation is incomplete!!
    Have I killed my laptop?!?
    I basically can't do anything!!
I've tried again and again to accept all the terms, etc before it crashes!!! But its impossible.
Are there any geniuses out there with a fix for me? I don't mind losing all my data, cos i've backed up everything.

    Thanks for your time ppl.

    Geo

How about plugging in an external keyboard and mouse via USB and using those?

i think that you should just call acer's tech support or get a new laptop. you could use a USB keyboard and mouse, but i think you should call acer and try to get them to fix the problem.

If you have another computer then try burning a disc with memtest86+ and running that. I had a similar effect with my 5562 when one of the RAM modules died. It seemed to do it in stages, firstly killing my installed windows, then reinstalling cleanly but not booting (blue screens) and finally not reinstalling at all!

If it is RAM you will have to call Acer to get the RAM module replaced. If you have two in your machine its much better to find the defective module yourself an send it in. Just to do this took Acer 2 months in my case (and I have "Advantage" cover).

You don't necessarily need to call Acer to get the RAM - you can buy 'em from newegg and replace it yerself. It's not that big of a deal. And I don't think it's going to void your warranty either (I could be wrong on that part though).

if its still in warranty, you should be able to get it fixed or a replacement seeing as keyboard or mouse failure falls under hardware malfunction

    Hey guys!
    Cheers for the feedback.
I've had good results using an external mouse.
I've managed to complete the recovery of windows.
Unfortunately, the keyboard and front usb port is still dead on normal startup.
Yet on debug mode, everything works- even the keyboard that im typing on now!
What are the limitations of debug mode? I only really wanna use my comp for music neway.
Is there some sort of program that could make my comp load up in debug mode automatically.
Any other genius suggestions would be appreciated.
Yea the laptops past its 6month warranty so i think i'm on my own. Workin 2 much at the mo to get the chance to phone acer.
    Thanks so much guys.
My computer has been partially rescusitated!!!

Feels good to hear that, Geo. Under debug mode, you should be able to run Winamp or something like that (although I can be wrong - but it doesn't hurt to try). Since the keyboard is dead, you could try to plug in an external keyboard - don't you have at least 3 USB ports (including the dead one). Or, like Charles said try running memtest. Sorry to blow your bubble, but I don't have any "genious" suggestions. :p
