hi guys...i have installed XP on my acer aspire 5710..
my problem now is i want to dual boot againg with the vista pre-insrtalled,,,how can i do that...??
i hope someone could help me thnx a lot...more power
-
OMG...
i can't understand...what about if i had already installed xp before doing that thing....i just want to boot again to vista again....i installed imediately the xp..then it is booting on xp right away.. i want to boot it again to vista..can you help..thnx -
Ok. You mean, you had vista pre-installed, and then you installed XP, and now you cannot boot into vista and can only boot into xp ? You want to setup the Vista Boot-Loader ? Do you have a Vista Install Disc (Not recovery disc) ?
-
no i don't have that...i do use recovering w/o disk... using alt+f10...
-
i do have the xp install disc...
-
See if you went through all the steps in this guide.
I don't know what you'll be able to do without a Vista Install Media. You can try out EasyBCD in XP, and see if you can reinstall the Vista Boot-Loader, and then manually add an entry for Vista and XP. -

what about i will just borrow installation disc from a friend....isn't it i do have the activation key below my notebook???will it work???
-
atthegates
i am downloading it...tell you later what will happen..thnx anyway... -
regarding to this.. i have still one big problem...about the PSD one of the features of acer "EMPOWERING TECHNOLOGY"..i do have important files there..how could i decrypt it again.....thnx
-
Hmm if you have encrypted files using the empowering tech you'll need the same software to decrypt..
-
if i am going to use the recovery disk isn't i am going to reformat my drive C..i believe my encrypted files wer there...can i just copy it to other partition then open it later after the recovery will it work???
did not yet try recovering..but finished burning it...just need the answer for this question...thnx
-
No idea if you can just copy your encrypted files to another partition but I don't see why not if you know which and where they are....
-
i had boot it..but i don't know what exactly to do..what sould i really do...???thnx...

When you boot withe the CD it starts like vista installation - it's loading files. Then, at some point, it will ask you to select language and stuff. Make your choice then hit OK. Now it should ask you if you want to repair your installation. Select it and you'll see a list of repair options. Now I don't remember them and I can't tell you which one you should choose but it should be something about "boot" of course. If you're not sure which one to select write 'em down then post them here and I'll tell you.
YOU CAN SEE ALL THIS IN THE GUIDE THAT @ANDY GAVE YOU, PAGE 4. JUST WHEN YOU'RE ASKED TO INSERT VISTA DVD YOU'LL INSERT VISTA RECOVERY CD INSTEAD. PLEASE READ THE GUIDE. -
you will choose
start up repair
recover to earlier system (not sure)
recover the whole set up
memory diagnostic test
cmd -
Startup Repair!
Btw You have XP installed already right? Just can't 'see' it? -
easybcd error in xp..
-
yap....i am using xp now...
-
Ok now when you 'repair' Vista, you won't see XP, you'll boot into Vista, and now you'll have to use EasyBCD to make the dual-boot. Read page 4 from the guide(the link I gave you above), there are screenshots and all explained.
-
well... i did it..but when it restarted it boot again to xp....then easybcd error in xp
-
w8 i will try it one more time...hehehe
-
Something is not right. Insert the recovery cd and do the start up repair again. Wait to complete, it should tell you at some point that it's finished repairing successfully. Then restart and it should boot in Vista and there you'll need to use EasyBCD.
-
unfortunately it boot again to xp..huhuhuhu..it says root cause not found...OS booted succesfully...
-
when i hit the start up repair....
-
It's supposed to find a corrupted boot sector.
So what, Vista 'think' that the startup is fine your laptop is booting into XP..? Now this is very weird...Maybe you did something with EasyBCD in XP..Otherwise I have now idea what the hell is going on.... -
i don't have also an idea on this....i am using a modified windows XP does it matter...??this is really weird....well maybe i got the wrong recovery image that you had given me,,,i saw there were 2..but i was not sure which one to choose so i just click x86...
-
x86 is the way to go. It's not the recovery cd's fault coz I used it myself 2 months ago and it worked like a charm, I've no idea why is that happening..
-
i didn't do anything with easybcd on xp because it totally doesn't run...
-
omg..this is weird...i installed my xp on D: drive does it matter???the D: drive was allocated already...mybe this is the fault..what do you think?
-
Ok walk me through what you did now, your laptop had Vista preinstalled right? On C:\? Then you installed XP on D:\? And you didn't touch Vista?
-
yeah that's right..
-
I did exactly the same thing and it worked great for me..
Did you by any chance switch from AHCI to IDE from the BIOS when you was installing XP ? -
w8 i didn't touch vista except i moved program files...all programs that can run in xp...like GARENA, BITLORD, videoconverter...that's all
-
You can also try this in order to use EasyBCD under XP and to try to fix your startup options:
Check this link ---> http://neosmart.net/wiki/display/EBCD/Installing+XP+After+Vista
-
no..i downgraded my bios before..and i believe it was set in AHCI...but now it was upgraded againg..i was fooled from the website of acer intalling the 1.40 version...
-
You checked my last post and the link?
-
ok..i am trying it now
-
will i choose the drive D: for my XP...did i do right??
-
Welcome back I was worried something went wrong.
Yeah it's ok for XP to use D:\, you have C:\ occupied by Vista. The drive letter doesn't matter in this case. If you have a G:\ partition it would be ok to install XP on G:\.. -
atthegates what could i say....
thnx i did it... you are really great...
now how could i dual boot it with XP...i am runing vista now..your so cool man....thnx for the great help...indeed you are a notebook master.. -
Yeah I wish
Now is where EasyBCD steps up. Install it on Vista, launch it then go to Add/Remove Entries.
Select "Windows NT/2k/XP/2003" from the drop-down list, give it a name(for example Windows XP), select drive D:, then press "Add Entry" to finish.
Save.
Reboot.
-
yes...i did dual boot already with vita.....thnx a lot man...your great.....HEHEHEHE.....
it is really more advantage to join this forrum...i learned a lot...thnx....great...
till next time..LoL -
Oh, OK I didn't realize that. Well good for you. If you mess something up feel free to ask here
-
omg...my PSD....that what i was saying before..it succesfully open but i can't see the drive....so i can't open it totally..last problem..
-
I don't get the question. What do you mean exactly? You can't see what drive, from where?
-
isn't acer has the speacial software "EMPOWERING TECHNOLOGY" on that there is a program w/c is called as PSD(personal security dsk)..i used that to store my pictures...before it works..i could open it and be visible as a drive..but now it only says successfully open but not visible..
-
I have zero experience with ACER's empowering tech software..never used any..so I can't help you here. I suggest you start a new thread about PSD...Sorry..
-
ok...thnx a lot man...
...you have already a very big help to me...i really appreciate it....thnx soo much
