Is the install process still frozen up, or do you have a stable environment right now?

Would you like a screenshot of the process that has been stuck for like 4/5 hours now?

    Sure.

Can't you just abort it? Also, does this software not come pre-installed? It sounds like the sort of thing that would be.

Alright, I see it. Well, if you think your computer is in danger, now is the time to backup any important stuff you have. Then, you might just have to terminate the process manually. Then (if your computer doesn't instantly fall over dead) check and see if the software installed properly; if not, reinstall it. If worse comes to worse, you can reinstall Windows.

So is this a new install of Windows, or did you just get the computer, and haven't installed this yet?

Do you have any disk to reinstall it? If not, I would suggest you get ahold of Acer and let them know the difficulties you are having.

Have you checked Task Manager to see if the program was 'Running' or 'Not Responding'?

i say, next time don't even bother with the acer empowering programs. lots of people aren't running those.

of course, if that was your first boot up it could be a little different, but then at that, all the files are on the hidden partition if it was your first boot up.

Acer Empowering Technology is a prime example of manufacturers not caring about optimising software/drivers. It sits there eating large amounts of RAM all for a shinier interface of what Windows can already do.

These drivers that tell you you need framework to install are really just wastes of resources unless you really need to use your fingerprint scanner or whatever. I have 2 Acer laptops with full functionality with no Empowering Technology installed.

You'll be fine without it, Windows System Restore will still work, and you're generally better off storing important data on a separate partition and just reformatting your Windows partition if something buggers up, as opposed to restroing.

What you need to do is untick the box in msconfig as described in an earlier post. Once the computer has rebooted, go to add/remove programs in the control panel and uninstall Empowering Technology. Once this has completed the machine will work fine. To manually install Empowering technology go to:
    http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers/notebook/as_5050.html
Download the Empowering Technology platform and run the downloaded file. This should fix all your probs. Hope this helps
