I no longer have the laptop, but I need to help someone who does. Basically, he has 2 recovery disks that were made from original recovery partition and he was trying to recover to original state, but the problem he is having is when he puts the disk in and restart PC nothing happens, it boots to windows and doesn't start recovery. Can you please post exact steps on how to recover it, as I am doing it remotely and the person is not a computer savvy. Thanks a bunch!

you need to change your boot order, you might be able to do this by pressing F12 durring POST (when first turning on PC).. if that doesn't work then you will need to change the boot order in the BIOS... to do that

    1. Press F2 durring startup (when ACER screen first comes up) this will bring up BIOS info screen
    2. when in the BIOS screen press the right arrow 3 times until BOOT is highlighted...
    3. go down to the CD drive entry.... press F6 until the CD drive is at the top of the list...
    4. press F10 (save and exit) be sure to hit enter here.

or if your HDD still had the hidden recovery partition on it, you could hold the <ALT> key and press F10 when the ACER screen first comes up... using this method doesn't require the disks as it restores the HDD from it's hidden partition.

    good luck,,

thank you for your reply. Can you please be more specific.

Is it F2 or maybe Del key? If you can post exact steps I would really appreciate because I am dealing with someone who doesn't have the clue what he is doing, so I am trying to just email him instructions on changing the boot order.

    is that good enough??

my bios is accessed by F2 some bios's use the DEL key... it usually tells the user at the bottom left of the ACER (POST) screen but only for a few seconds so ya gotta be looking for it.

my bet is that it's F2 though

even the same models often have different parts (motherboards, hard drives, ect, ect) so not even the same model is guarnteed to be the same,, but most PC makers stick with a particular BIOS manufacturer unless given a really good reason to switch...

but basiclly all of a manufacturers BIOS screens are layed out the same, i guess it makes for easier tech support??
