I have been having some trouble with speed on this computer and I'm quite sure its not a connection problem and its a temperature problem. Lately I have been hearing some strange noises coming out of it and I do feel a lot of heat on it's underside. Unfortunately it only has one vent on the side and the rest are at the bottom. I will admit it is not the the best well kept laptop ever, for once it's never seen a compressed air can seen I took it out it's box. I did find this tutorial online for reducing the heat but I decided to post it here first to see what you guys thought about it boefore I went on with it.
I gotta say I never opened up a laptop before but that doesn't mean I'm computer illiterate or am shy about doing it. I do realize its a tutorial for a fujitsu and not an Acer. Well the bottom line is, what can I do to reduse the temperature? Can I attempt this http://www.i-hacked.com/content/view/129/42/ tutorial? and if so, are there any differences I shoould be aware about?

First of all, download HWMonitor and post your temps here.

As said above, any chance of postinf temps.

As mentioned on the website you posted, dust can be a common cause, so taking the heatsink off and cleaning the fins around the fan area is a good idea, also reapplying thermal compound, artic silver is a good one.

Also, another thing you can do is undervolt your CPU. This lowers the voltages the cpu uses, which in turn reduces the heat. Link below is a good thread regarding this, should show you everything you need to know about it.

You said in your post first post there are some strange noises coming from the machine, what sort of noises are these??

Different beeps stand for different things really. Could be overheating though as you said that was the main problem.

No need to post a pic, just state your max temps here.

The noises are rather odd noises from the fan, almost like a claking. At the moment my computer is very silent.
Oh and the beep i just heard.

I'm a bit worried about running the ORTHOS CPU Loader from the tutorial you sent me on undervolting since my current temp is a ridiculous 179 F and the program simulates full cpu load on both cores and i'm afraid it will kill my computer.

If your laptop gets to hot, it should shut itself down to stop any damage to your system.

Also, have you opened the laptop up and had a look to see if the fan area/fins are clogged up with dust and dirt.

Also, reading one of your posts above, you say the fan is making a claking noise, is this a rattling of sorts. If so your fan could be on it's way out.

i HAVEN'T OPENED IT YET BUT I CAN SSE IT THROUGH A VENT AND THE FINS DO HAVE DUST ON THEM BUT NOT ENOUGH TO CAUSE SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE, i THINK.

Clogged up vents are the MAIN reason for overheating. You definitely need to clean them up, as well as your fan. Get yourself a can of compressed air~ Rattling could be the fan. Acer fans tend to be first thing to die usually...

Mind posting max CPU and GPU temps in Celsius? Not sure whether the temp you mentioned was for the GPU or CPU. Should be safe for GPU, but WAY over for CPU.

If you can see some dust, I would open it up and give it a clean. You'd be surprised how much this can affect your laptop, then if your temps are still high, then try undervolting. I would also keep a close eye on your fan if it's making funny noises.

All your temps are really high. CPU should be at most 60C. GPU is still safe but could be lower. Same with HDD. Try cleaning out your fan and vents first. Try searching for your service manual if you need help opening it up. Just be careful with the fan. Keep it still when blowing compressed air over it.

is that down to 47 after you've cleaned the vents etc??.
