So I just bought myself a new laptop, ACER ASPIRE 6930G. Got home, booted up Vista, did the formatting for it, all is well. It begins installing 21 files that came with it, so I shrug it off and go to pass the time.

I return and it appears to be stuck on number 13. InstantOn Arcade. It was like this for a good hour and a bit. So I try to use the laptop while it installs and lo' and behold it's frozen. I reboot and it continues to install from file number 13 again. 5-10 minutes into it, it freezes, again. This continues to happen each time I boot it up.

Now I reboot again, this time closing the installation before doing anything, and I get about 10-15 minutes into using the laptop and again, it locks up.

I'm really concerned as I've been looking to purchase a laptop and this one stuck out for me and now it works this well? /sarcasm.

Any advice or others experiencing this sort of behavior? I could really use some assistance. Thanks.

Format the HDD and do a CLEAN install of Vista (if that's the OS you want to use).
Don't mess with installation of Acer additional programs as they are a nuisance to say the least.
I removed them all and in the process cleaned out over 5 GB of hdd space, not to mention gained on responsiveness of the OS itself as many of those programs are clogging resources without need.

...jeez, you can't even burn your recovery DVDs if the thing freezes on first run set-up!

Isn't there a manual way to start that acer install thing again?.

Just end the process clean up all the files and restart the acer programs installation.

Yeah...Acers C and D partitions are normally the same size. Quite silly because the D holds all photo's, valuable data etc. which is not affected by a System Recovery.(But is normally required to be larger than C. C is only used for installed programs).

So D should be partitioned larger than C.

I changed my partion sizes way back using Acronis True Image (was a free download for Seagate users).

I now have C at 20.21GB and D at 86.67GB from a 120GB Seagate drive including the "hidden" PQ Service Partition.

    Worked well for me

    Cheers,
    Theo

I´m guessing you dont realy need all the empowering crap anyhow. Clean install, download the newest drivers (they are anyhow most likely newer than does you got with it) is my suggestion. The only acer utility you might actualy need is Acer BioProtection to use your fingerprint sensor.
    Those are my thoughts.
