I have an Aspire 5251-1805 with a busted screen. The screen is almost black but in certain light, I can still see something. After doing some research, I found that the backlight is broken or something snapped out of its place.

I recently moved to a country where there's no tech support so I'd have to find somebody to do it. In case I have to find the busted backlight part, how can I find what I need. I tried asking Acer but they're not releasing that info. I figured, somebody here might know. I basically want to go to a repair shop with some basic information so they won't overcharge me or do something I don't need.

    Thanks

The easiest way to go about it is to buy a new LCD screen and replace it yourself which isn't hard to do.
It's a relatively new notebook so you could possibly use 1 year traveller warranty to repair it where you are for free (if it’s still under warranty)- check it with local Acer office.

The LCD is fine, the problem is just the backlight. I guess replacing that would be much cheaper.

...but a lot harder and if it's LED backlit I don't know if it's even possible.
It's kind of one part really- take a look at LCD screens on eBay or somewhere else- you'll see what I'm talking about.
If anyone else has any ideas- please join in…

You can buy new backlights on eBay but it is a fiddly time consuming job to replace them, takes me about 2 hours, second hand screen is easier/quite cheap
Not changed a LED backlight yet so no idea if is possible either.

Is the invertor OK that powers the backlight ?
