I am thinking of purchasing either a TM4404 or TM4402, but I'm confused about something. They both have the ATI X700 graphics card with a limited screen resolution of 1280x800. The 8100 series has the exact same card and same display size, but can go up to 1680 x 1050.
What gives?
Thanks for any input.

Different LCD screen. LCDs have a fixed number of pixels that comprise the 'native resolution'. The 4400 is a lower resolution screen (WXGA) whereas the 8100 and 8200 series are WSXGA+ resolution screens.

Right on, thanks! That's what I needed to know.

blackdog, keep in mind that a higher resolution screen may NOT be what you are looking for. if it is a WSXGA+ on a 15.4" then everything will be smaller..but sharper, than WXGA.
just depends what u prefer/need. -
I run 1280x1024 on a 19" LCD now only because it's the highest allowed for the monitor. The resolution for the 4404 is actually the same, only a smaller veritcal demention due to the actual size of the screen itself. It just seems like all the systems I've looked at with 1280x800, the icons and open windows seem much larger (ie lower resolution) than on my desktop. I guess my mind is just playing tricks on me. My eyes see x800 and automatically make me think lower. I'd still prefer the option to adjust to a higher resolution though, if I could.
Thanks! -
Remember most LCD's are optimized for their 'native' resolution - so while a WSXGA+ will have a higher native resolution than WXGA - the WSXGA+ can be adjusted to WSGA resolution , it will not look as 'sharp' IMHO.

Well, it made sense until I read this from ATI.
I know this is starting to be more rhetorical questioning, I just don't see where the hold up is if all the components support higher resolutions.
Help understanding TM resolutions (4404 and 4402)
