    Hi,

So I changed my TM 8204 heatsink due to faulty fan.

The problem is the thermal pad which connect CPU, GPU to heatsink is unusually thick, like 2-3 mm.

I tried to use regular thermal pad (0.13 mm) but it seems there is a gap between CPU and heatsink. It causes overheat and my laptop wouldnt even boot.

Anyone has idea where I can get this "thick" thermal pad?

You really outdid yourself on this one.... Your mobo is fried.

Lesson #1. Read my cooling guide, the basic principals apply to all laptops - http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=77860

Lesson #2. Also read up on what you are doing first.... we all make mistakes, but the simple ones seem to hurt the most.

Best of luck in your search of a new laptop

    fortunatelly I didnt

I could boot after reuse the thick thermal pad like raserdk

however the temp is up and down, like heartbeat in graph.

I believe this due to ineffective thermal pad, that's why i searched for new thick thermal pad

It could also be due to the APCI features built into the system. My fan only turns on at 52C and turns off at 48C. This is standard on most laptop models.

    Hi SSX

I read your guide, however in my case applying arctic 5 directly seems not possible. other user also reported that there is huge a gap between CPU and heatsink http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=221453

Seems you r quite experienced, any idea how can i solve this, the only site sells thick thermal pad charged 70 pounds which I cannot afford

Any screen shots would be helpful.

Does the 8204 use the same foil cooling support that originally came with my 5672? Is the thicker pad what I have on my north bridge "pad wise" that is.

    Picture below

If that is the case you could possibly prefab something fairly easily.

Ive never seen a CPU use a thermal pad before, you might be referring to the North/South chipset pads.

Go to your local computer store, they should sell thermal pads there.

I do have a 15x15cm thick thermal pad (4.0 W/m-K conductivity) lying around, if its not thick enough you can stack them together. Where do you live?
