Hi i have an acer aspire 5050 series and have a really odd problem.
I turned notebook off the other day and tried turning back on but it was completely dead. plugged the power cord in and still nothing not even the charging light on the front of the laptop.
I removed the battery for a few seconds and replaced and tried again and it started working again and was charging ok. Laptop when on works fine on battery and charge - so no problems there i guess.
This keeps happening now where i have to remove the battery to get it started again but even this is starting to take a long time to get the machine going again. i.e. 3-4 times removing battery before it starts back up. As a test i've tried restarting when running from battery and that works ok but when i do the same thing when charging it cuts out and wont turn back on.
I am completely and utterly stumped - any ideas?
Many thanks in advance
Chris

no clue if it will help.. but it can't hurt...
take out the battery.. remove the AC power cable...
HOLD POWER-BUTTON DOWN for a full 30 seconds.
replace battery and AC and see if that helped -
Hi, i have tried your suggestion - thanks for your help but still no joy.
Any other suggestions please? -
how does it act without the battery?
i've seen batterys cause laptops to act really wierd as they age and the battery degrades.
my guess would be that the battery is old and resulting in problems with the power system. try running it w/o a battery and see if it reboots properly or if you are forced to try multiple times to get it to boot...
OR will it only boot when the battery is installed?? if that is the case you have some sort of hardware issue, because any laptop should be able to opperate without a battery present.
BTW if you do buy a battery please don't buy a CHEAP replacement, and the chance of finding a good battery on EBAY are slim..
A Battery is the ONLY part i suggest buying from the manufacturer, and if you read thru posts about the lack of success of those generic batteries listed on EBAY... the battery is the ONE item where being able to send it back to ACER if it fails is a VERY GOOD OPTION... and well worth the extra cash.
Help with Aspire 5050 series please!
