    Hi.

I just acquired an Acer Aspire 5920G with NVidia GeForce 8600M GS.
I opened the back cover to see what it looks like and it looks like the graphics card is replaceable. It’s an MXM-II card in 73 mm x 78 mm dimensions.

I’m planning to replace the graphics card and I have couple questions.
Does the motherboard or the system support Nvidia Geforce 9600M GT 512MB GDDR3 MXM – II or Nvidia Quadro FX3600 512 MB MXM II?

How do you upgrade the CPU? I unbolted all the bolts on the heat sink but the frame is in the way and I can’t slide the heat sink assembly out as simple as I thought it would be. Does the mainboard support X9000 extreme CPU?

Is there a link to a manual where it shows how to break apart the laptop? I might change the screen, etc.

Is it worth putting the 5920G on steroids with X9000 cpu and Nvidia Geforce 9600M GT 512MB GDDR3 or Nvidia Quadro FX3600?

    Thanks.

Hi, upgrading the gfx card depends upon the motherboards' bios being able to recognise it, it isn't like desktop motherboards where you can plus any old, within reason, gfx cards in. You might find, if it has the same bios as other 5920's, you can use one that is from the same. The same can be said about the CPU, but I don't know how to remove one, sorry...

That what I’m asking. Is the BIOS of 5920G is compatible with X9000 Extreme CPU and Nvidia Geforce 9600M GT 512MB GDDR3 or Nvidia Quadro FX3600?

Also, the manual on the website of ACER does not show how to replace CPU. I’m sure somebody has replaced the CPU in a 5920G before. How do you get the heatsink out? Any pictures?

As far as i know, no one have (successfully) put a 9600M GT in the 5920G, but there have been some semi-successful tries for the 6920G. The best VGA that is guaranteed to work on the 5920G is the 9500M GS. For the processor i haven't seen anyone running anything higher than the T9300 or T9500 in it. The thing is i am not sure if it supports 266MHz FSB. I can see that you have those components in your HP,so why don't you try and enlighten us if its possible or not ;)

PS. I have the service manual somewhere, let me find it and i will send it to you

Quite a few people have tried the 9600 Gpu's in the 5920g, but they dont work. The best guess people come to is that acer does not have the gpu "codes" in the bios so it wont boot.

Not all is lost though, there is talk of modding the bios over at MXM upgrade forums. Take a look (Its a very good site) http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/index.php?showforum=67
