I have an acer aspire 2010 and it freezes on the 1st boot up screen with the big logo with "Acer" on it. I can try to push F2 to enter the BIOS config it freezes also. I see the hard drive light on solid not blinking. I was using Fedora Core 3 and WinXP and messing with ndiswrapper to get my Intel Pro 2200BG card to work with linux and I've talked to some people and they say the master boot record could be screwed up. I was wondering the easiest way to way to reser the CMOS battery or is there a jumper or what? Anyone know? I can get lucky and itll ask me for my BIOS password and let me into GRUB to choose my O/S to boot into but I choose windows and it froze of course. If I can get this password prompt again Ill just boot into knoppix or something to backup my data and then format... Help would be very much appreciated!![]()

If the Master Boot Record on your HDD is screwed up, you shouldn't be doing anything to the CMOS/BIOS. Resetting it will not fix your HDD MBR. You can just boot into DOS (DOS Boot CD and run FDISK /MBR, this will fix your Mater Boot Record. I'm not sure if doing this will be compatible with your Linux setup. This is just one way of fixing the MBR, do a search on the web and you'll fix a lot of solutions that will work for your current system OS setup.
