I have an Acer Extensa 5635, chipset Intel GM45/GM47, Socket mPGA478MN (Socket P), the processor I have on it is an Intel Core2Duo T7250-2.00GHz, 2M L2 cache, I want to know what is the most powerful processor this laptop can handle as I was thinking of up-grade it.
Would one of these work?
Core 2 Duo T9900, SLGEE, 3.07 GHz, 6 MB L2, 1066 MT/s, 35 W, Socket P
Core 2 Extreme X9100, SLB48, 3.07 GHz, 6 MB L2, 1066 MT/s, 44 W, Socket P
Core 2 Duo T9400, SLB46, 2.53 GHz, 6 MB L2, 1066 MT/s, 35 W, Socket P
Any help will be highly appreciated.
Thank you all in advance!+
Or this one
Core 2 Quad Q9100, SLB5G, 2.27 GHz 2 × 6 MB 1066 MT/s, 45 W, Socket P

most importantly, stick to a processor with the same-or-lower TDP as what you currently have. Other than that, a bit of google research should help you find out what the bios will support, and/or if any bios upgrades are necessary

Hello! I`m almost confident, that your laptop will not handle Quad processors. Only few laptops were able to work with them without any hardware modifications (some Alienware, some DELL, and only some of 7XXX acer aspire, that came with Q9000 on board as a factory default).
Here is the list of supporting processors by your chipset. T9900 is most powerfull choice for you. Or, if you`ll be able to acquire X9100 E0 stepping, than you can buy it. But it is really rare beast, and now really expensive.
As g.Iewarne said, you should stick for processors with TDP not more than 35W. Or you can install P9700 - 28W TDP and 2.8GHz. -
What will be the problem with 35W, as X9100 have 44W and now I am more concerned about the decision I took.
Thank you very much for your help. -
About X9100 C0 abd E0 read in 5739G thread. There is a lot of information about it.
