Every notebook out there with an Intel Core Duo and Core 2 Duo has the high pitched noise. Some people can't hear it and some just aren't bothered by it.

It's caused by the processor MOSFETS going into the C3 and C4 sleep and deep sleep states. There are a couple software fixes available such as RMclock however.

If you don't want the noise don't buy a machine with either of the two types of processors in it.

I'm not sure if the new Pentium Dual Core processor has it though.

the high pitch noise emitted by the processor is very minimal, i'am not bothered by them, as you can only hear them if you are about couple of centimeter near the machine. rest assured; i'am a very picky person. if i'm not bothered by them; so should you.

I have it on my Travelmate 6464 and it drives me insane... anyone know how to dampen it?
