I received this feedback today 19 Sep 07 from ACER CARE SERVICE CENTER IN UAE for the LCD damage within 10 months used (laptop still under warranty) For those people who are planning to buy ACER please allocate some money with you for the LCD replacement in case your LCD have generated spot mark on the screen, it is not covered under warranty By ACER CARE SERVICE CENTER.

With reference to your email dated 19 Sept, 2007, we would like to clarify
that the case you have explained comes under the category of 'Press
Damage'. As per the clarification that we have given to you during your
visit to our service centre, the problem occurred due to some pressure
either by human finger or other factors on the screen. These damages happen
due to external user handling issues. We do not claim that the LCD module
needs to be opened for this problem to occur. The LCD surface is made of a
soft film that is vulnerable to scratch or pressure and thus to damage. The
LCD screen is a glass protected screen which needs to be handled with
extreme care in comparison to CRT monitors. Please also be notified that
this is not the first case for Acer as mentioned by you in your email but a
regular occurance received by all brands throughout the industry.

Also to explain your point about shock absorption by the external body not
being adequate, you may compare this to any package that is enclosed with
Glass items. If this package is mishandled the glass items will damage
inside but the outer carton could remain intact. In insurance terms such
cases come under the 'Concealed damages' category' and are a industry
    standard acceptance.

We value your relationship with us as a customer and are willing to help in
offering a discount on the LCD spare part and also no labour cost to close
the case. Please let us know if you agree to this proposal. Hoping to have
your understanding on this issue. Our service staff will be willing to
clarify any further queries on this case.

    Thank you and best regards,

Thanks for the comment, I think Acer should improve their LCD not their cabinet nor the transportation packaging, so that customer who buys ACER laptop won't be paying from their pocket for the LCD replacement during warranty in case it generate spot on the screen.

Acer is actualy the third notebook manufacturer, and this is cause of their price politic, but when you pay everything at low price there is problem lot of customers(me also) are buying acer for the price, design, and perf
But after come the reality of poor after sale , poor quality component, I have had to aspire the first a 3000 no problem exept the batery life, and the poor quality of the paint, the second a 5102 make me discover the fabulous world of Acer, in fact if you go for an Acer you have to pray to be luky enought so that you can avoid all the problems that other customers encounter,
At the end you've got for what you pay.
    Now I'm working with Dell...

I had the screen go bad on my 5672. It had a 1" wide bar that went bad from top to bottom on the left side of the screen.

I never dropped it or was rough on it, but the hinge is strong and it does put stress on the screen every time you open the laptop.

My warranty ran out, so I just bought a new screen on eBay for around $150 and it took me 30 mins to replace.

I just won't give up on this thing. Let's see what's been replaced so far:

    1 motherboard
    1 cpu
    2 hard drives
    1 battery
    1 screen

Not much left to replace right? Well we will see what it comes up with next.
