Afternoon All,
I have an Acer Aspire 8930g and have a HL-DT-ST BDDVDRW CT10N dvd drive. I ned to update the firmware to current as it is not recognising a lot of new dvd/cd discs nd the firmware i have is dated 2006.
I've been on the ACER support site, that has nothing for the cd/dvd drive.
Can anyone send a link or advise further?
Thank you in advance!

Hi. I am having the same problem. Have contacted Acer who directed me to their ftp download site site - ftp://ftp.support.acer-euro.com/ . I have downloaded the latest system bios v1.10 which also includes a blu-ray patch. However, I am still getting jerky playback on one of my new dvds. (Twenty Thousand Streets under the Sky). The flyer contains an 'Important Notice' to ensure that the Blu-ray DVd has the latest firmware upgrade. Does anyone know if a dvd patch contained in the system bios is the equivalent of a stand-alone dvd firmware upgrade.

My ex-girlfriend has a Acer Aspire 8930G laptop with the Blu-Ray drive described above. I have also been trying to get this to work. The problem is that the laptop comes shipped with Windows Vista Home, so I reformatted the HDD and installed Windows Vista Ultimate instead. Now, this might have been an excellent idea with any other brand of laptop out there, but Acer only ships their complete driver set pre-installed on the Windows Vista Home installation on the harddisk and on the rescue partition (hidden). If you suffer a harddisk crash or reformat the drive, you're out of luck, since the drivers on Acer's website is only a fraction of the drivers and applications needed to make the system work. You can, however, purchase a rescue DVD from Acer if you wish, which will reformat and re-install Windows Vista Home with the complete driver set. As for the problem with the Blu-Ray player, Acer maintains that I need the application: Acer Arcade Deluxe to play Blu-Ray movies. This seems to be a simple matter, since Acer's website contains 4 versions of this software (not for the Aspire 8930G, but still). Unfortunately, it seems these intallations are crippled and does not contain all that shey should (according to Acer). Also, they are customized to the Acer Aspire versions under which they are located on the website. As a result, the Acer Arcade Deluxe application for Acer Aspire 8930G, does not appear on the website at all. To get this version, Acer says I should purchase the rescue DVD and restore my system to factory preset, as they are not giving the application separately. I don't know if this is true or not, or if Acer is just lying to make yet another sale for a crappy product. All I do know, is that drivers for this Blu-Ray player seems impossible to come by, probably because the price of it is too low for Hitachi or LG (I don't know which one) to give a damn. My ex-girlfriend has given up and is planning to buy a stand-alone Blu-Ray player for her TV instead and I'm advising all my friends to stay well away from Acer laptops in the future, because of their crappy support and shortage of drivers.
What ever happened to to the good old days when you got all the drivers and programs shipped with your laptop on CDs / DVDs, so you could re-install at will?
