I have an acer 5630 and I want to open it and put thermal paste onto the cpu. The instruction manual is for the 5630/5680/3690, so either of these might have the same design but just different components inside.

To get to the cpu, do I have to remove the keyboard etc....or do I do this from the bottom of the notebook? I tried unscrewing the screws to get to the main memory component. I tried pulling it to open but it doesn't come off easily and I'm afraid I might break it with too much force. Should I use more force and get it open or no?

get a 3 lb. hammer and chisel and go to town. but seriously, where do the instructions say the processor can be accessed, the bottom or top?

It is most likely from the bottom. My bottom was really hard to get off, but I just slowly went around all the sides pulling it up and finally it gave.

The instructions or whatever booklet came with just has a diagram of the bottom of the notebook. Labelling the battery compartment, main memory component hard drive bay...etc...doesn't say "CPU processor location" I'm assuming it's that main memory component in there somewhere. I'll take another stab at this some time soon. Maybe.

Well I gave it another try and it was a little easier this time. I got it off, and here is the pic of the CPU. I don't know how to remove that copper heatsink or what to do next exactly so what should I do pros? This looks a lot like that how to apply as5 on the 5672wlmi guide.

Okay so I finally put some ocz5 ultra onto the cpu. It booted and the temp started at 42C. It does that same thing again, starting at 45ish going up slowly/faster till 55 and cooling down. The base gets a lot less hot so more heat is going out instead.

I think I should have put more thermal paste because the guides use more and I use a lot lot less.
