    Hi there,

I've already posted another thread about the issues I'm having with my Acer 5535 however I have a another question that I was meaning to ask about it. If I wanted to restore the laptop to it's factory settings, the laptop I had previously came with a Recovery DVD, this one did not.

How do I perform a clean install? I know there is some sort for recovery partition on the HD, but how do I start the process?

    Many thanks,

    Andy

Hi, well hopefully the recovery partition is still intact, if so all you need to do is press 'Fn' and 'F10' at startup...

Ahhh excellent thank you! I take it I would do that while the Acer logo is on screen?

Thanks for your help, that's very useful.

Presumably it's a similar process for all machines that have a recovery partition? I have a Dell XPS 720 which has a similar drive partition.

I like to know where these things are in case I do need to start a fresh.

A friend of mine is planning on using the recovery partition to restore there Acer but they aren't very computer literate, after they have pressed Fn and F10 is there anything else they'll need to do like download drivers etc? Or is it just a case of following the on-screen instructions for the restore and "bobs ya' uncle" your done?

Any help would be appreciated, thanks

I think in most cases you can do a fresh install but form past experience, once the operating system is back up and running, go hunting for the most recent drivers.
