How does the s3 take advantage of the ssd that comes with compared to a full blown ssd?

Anyone have an answer? Is it for OS and programs like a separate drive ?

There are two functions in an SSD + HDD solution:

    1. Quicker boot, or Rapid Resume
    2. SSD type performance, or Smart Response Technology SRT

With SRT it combines HDD+SSD into what looks like a big SSD. The good news is that this works really well. The bad news is that the S3 was an early model, and did not support a chipset that support Smart Response. So, the only thing Acer uses the SSD for is boot.

I would wait for either a true SRT system, or eventually the hard drive guys will all have hybrid hard drives that will look very similar to an SSD but with big capacities. Google SRT and see why it is cool stuff.

Ok, that's what's I was wondering. I will just pay the extra bit and get the full blown ssd version. Or I may wait for the s7.

Definitely pay extra for a real SSD or prepare to replace the stock one with a full blown-one (whichever comes cheaper) otherwise it's doesn't make much sense.

I already have one in my timeline. Its great. I am wanting the lighter weight of the ultra book however. I like the s3. Its a nice unit. As long as I can upgrade to 8 gb of ram. I will buy the cheapest model that has the real ssd.

RAM can't be upgraded on Aspire s3 as far as I know.
It's integrated into the mobo and there's no slot to put a second one in- so it seems neither replacing nor adding RAM is possible.
