i went online and look at many different websites and some said it is 6.4lbs and on the official site it said that it is 4.8 lbs.
who is telling the truth...???
-
mine is a trim 6 1/2 lbs with battery but without other accessories like the ac to dc converter. 4.8lbs could be the weight sans battery.
-
Actualy, it appears venombite is right. Out of curiosity, I just got on a standard bathroom scale with and w/o the laptop and the diference is less than 5 lbs.
-
no doubt, the battery is the biggest challenge for getting weight down on a laptop so if manufacturers were to quote a system weight without the battery in it'd be totally misleading. heck, my thinkpad would be 2 lbs lighter (almost).
-
It should be 4.8lbs with optical drive installed as stated on their site, but they don't seem to mention the battery. Other users on this site bought a 3201XCi and they said it's pretty light, so I'm gonna assume it's also with the battery.

I'm sorry, did you mean to say without the battery instead of w/o the laptop? So the unit without the battery is 5lbs? If so, that's still a bit misleading, when you buy a notebook, you're expected to have a battery in it, otherwise what's the point.

No, I meant I stood on the scale with and without the laptop. the difference was slightly less than 5lbs. We are talking about a garden variety bathroom scale here, accuracy unknown, though it seems consistant enough.

hmmm.....is 6.5lb a lot to carry around campus all day ...i am say from 8am to about 4pm....cuz i am trying to find a notebook thats light but at the same time can have enough power to run games like Lineage2 or Final Fantasy XI
-
hmm... well if the 3201's do weigh 6.4lb's that would make it equal to the 4501 series, which cant be right as the 3201 is smaller generally with a smaller screen and a 6 cell pack rather than a 8 cell. so theres no way its the same unless theyve added a sheet of lead to it [
] . so that would mean that the weights of both of them (and looking at other similar specced acers that weight the same as 4501) are without battery... so we need one acer P-M user to confirm the weight of there notebook then we can get a fair idea if all other weights are accurate.
-
The TM3201 weights in at 4.8lbs with battery and optical drive. The 6.4lbs number is wrong and has been corrected on some website but not others.
-
thx for wiz for the confirm weight ^^

If it was 6.4lbs, you can get a 15.4" model at that kind of weight as MadduckUK mentioned.
Not only does Acer need to promote their brand a bit more in North America (probably more in the US than Canada), they need to be a bit more consistent on their specs. A lot of companies are mis-quoting the specs and Acer's support/sales depts are not helping when they give conflicting info as well.
All unit weights advertised by companies should have at least the battery weight included. As I indicated before, a notebook without a battery is pretty useless (unless you're always connected via AC). Weight should always be listed as how someone would use it, unit, battery & optical drive. They should probably even go a bit further to list the AC & Cable weight as well. This would have helped some HP ZX/ZV/R series users that found out that their AC "brick" turned out to be about as heavy & large as a brick. That's just what I think.
