    How long does it take to format a DVD-RW

    The new Acer 5720 is taking over 45 minutes to format the disk. Does it normally take this long?

    It's about 5-10 minutes most cases.

    RW??? FORMAT??? too cheap to know.... i just burn a permant disk each time... maybe i'm a wee bit lazy too.... and i have (3) 100 cd cases very oraganize,, one for each OS w/ data backups,, software installs ect..

    very handy..

    Yes Simsky, it SHOULD take 45 minutes to do a complete format. If you aren't paranoid about hiding your previous data, then you can do a quick format which would only delete the Table Of Contents instead (only takes 30 seconds for me).

    It still depends on the type of software that you are using. I rely on the NTI software that came with my ACER machine, as I found it much faster than NERO or Roxio.
