    Hello girls/guys,

I am curious how to add additional hd in Aspire 6930???
And which one can I add??

Currently I have 320GB and would like to upgrade to more hd space with additional hd, but just can't find info's how to upgrade and which hd do I need to buy.

Also got a question about expresscard 54?? What it is for?? What I need to buy to get that up and running?? For what can I use this??

Thanks in advance for your answers.

    Sincerely,

    Dino

Hi Dino, and welcome to NBR Acer!
Unfortunately, there isn't enough room in the 69xx series of Aspire notebooks to add a second hard drive. Looked in my 6920G, and I can confirm that.
You could get an external hard drive if that'll meet your needs, or upgrade to a 500GB 5400rpm and swap it with your 320GB.
The ExpressCard slot can be used for a wide variety of nifty peripherals - everything from wireless modems to external SATA ports to card readers to TV tuners! Take a look here to get some ideas.

on bottom left corner when I turn the laptop upside down, it's a space for additional drive, but can't see the connector.
    Already opened and checked.
Just curious if it's anywhere else located, so I can put additional hd in and connect somewhere/somehow.
Will try to post a pic or two of this laptop bottom part.

That's a great idea TechSuigi. I was thinking of doing the same with the expresscard slot, using it as storage device. You can find 32 and 16 GB cards in ebay not much but still it's ok. The only problem with these cards is that they are not fast enough as SSDs

If it's the same small compartment on the bottom left of the laptop, it's the mini-PCI for the wireless card and Turbo Memory, not a SATA port for a second drive.

No that IS a second hard drive bay. It says so in the Service Manual for the 6930G and has pictures of it being installed.

Even if you pull of the those two prongs that stick out, the door still will not shut, the drive is too thick for the vented side of the door to sit down properly.

How safe is it to install the hard drive without any hdd support bracket?

Now that I have 6930G I can surely confirm Leroy Bad is right. You can put a second HDD there. The only thing is that you need a new metal plate to hold the HDD in place and a new cover door without the two inside poles. You can buy both for €13.72 each. Go there
    http://www.mk-electronic.com/default.htm
and look for the items 33.ASR07.003 and 42.AVB07.001 in Acer parts for notebooks.

Can anyone confirm that they've done a successful installation with the new door and it fits??
Does that bracket come with screws, and mk-electronic ship to the US?

Search the forum, I believe at least one user has dual HDDs in their 6930/6935.

I don't think it comes but you might be able to buy screws from them as well. Try to find the catalogue/list for the 6930G. The catalogue number for the screws is in that list but they don't give prices and quantity. You can drop an email and ask them. BTW, I am pretty sure the door and the bracket will fit your laptop. After all only the 6930 was designed to have a second HDD. Unfortunately, the 6920 and the 6935 don't come with two HDD bays. The bigger laptops 7xxx and 8xxx are designed with two HDD bays.

I called Acer tech support, and a recording directed me to the Acer Store I called the Acer Store and they have no information on the parts.
I tried MK-Electronic.com but I can't register on thier website I don't get a confirmation email, and Acerparts.com gives an error when trying to register, and also I tried a French store, but they don't ship to the US.
Has anyone found any sort of solution? Is the 6930-6941 supposed to be in the united states?

Wow, that's double the price for the bracket and the cover. Did you buy only the bracket mrtibbs? and then you cut the two poles in the 2nd HDD cover you have?

Ok I want to mention to everyone that cutting the two poles off your door is not going to work, because that door is shaped incorrectly. When you remove the poles you still will not be able to place the door over the hard drive near the side with the vents. The correct door has a deeper mold or curve near the vented side which allows the door to sit properly. I can take some pics of both doors if anyone likes to compare the differences.
Also you need to have your own screws for the HDD bracket, they are the same type of screws that the primary HDD uses.

I finally got these parts from a guy who has connections on the inside for a decent price ($30+shipping within US for both parts) compared to whats online. If you would like his contact info PM me, he is willing to help.

Also for a more conventional route check out this Canadian site, they ship worldwide.

I just got my new bracket and cover for the second hard drive for my laptop. I bought them from Acer Spare Parts but I had to email them first and then call them since in their website they don't have many parts available to check.
I bought them both delivered first class recorded for £29.99. Each part cost £10 + vat and the postage was something £6 + vat. It was quite cheap, I think, considering the prices in other sites.
So now I can use the hard drive from my previous dead laptop. 160GB more

Well its been over a year since I've spoken with the guy who helped me get mine.

But do those links from Notebook Solutions no longer work? The prices have lowered to 29.99 I see.

    Hi Leroy,
Those links are fine but I wanted to get them all at once with some sort of re-assurance I'm getting the right parts... That 2nd hard drive cover is backordered and I wanted to get some sort of confirmation it's not the one with the posts because that's what I already have and don't want, and I wanted to ask about the hard drive bracket - does it come with the screws? Also, and sorry to be a pain, but did anybody put in the hard drive without that hard drive adapter? There's no mention if it's really necessary.
    Thanks all,
    hc4444

Hey Leroy, I read that thread... wow I feel bad for you guys to go through that frustration. I stopped at the point in the acer website that wouldn't recognize their own model number, went to their "authorized" parts supplier and got memory and warranty upgrades; at that point I decided to find another route. I'll try to contact that guy and ask him if he's got any more. You've saved me some money too about not needing that adapter. Thanks a bunch, and take care.

    Hi,
I've searched around and read a couple of threads, see about the 2nd cover and the caddy but can't figure out if it's possible to add the 2nd HDD if your 6930 doesn't have the SATA connector inside the bay. I see where it's supposed to go on the motherboard but the question is: can this be added also? I can't tell if those are contacts or spots where the sata connector would have been soldered to the MB.

If the connector is not presesnt then you would have to buy the right connector and eitheer solder it yourself or get someone else to do it.

There is only one PCB for the motherboard so those spots will be connection points.
