other than all the launcher icons disappeared. i realize it is still working, volume, brightness, bluetooth, sleep, change screen, numlock, scroll lock, battery saving mode. so far other than the launcher help and backup disappeared what else did you find that is not working?
At the moment i live without the launcher 1st. at least it works.

There is a guy with the same modem as me, who didn'n have this problem.
You can follow our discussion at this thread on pages 147&148:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=391646&page=147
if we would be able to find how his config or settings is diffrent from ours, probably we'll be able to work out a solution... -
Feature i'm missing most (compared to Vista where it all works) is that w/o Launcher I'm unable to switch wifi and 3G indepandantly from each other. It works like this:
- after powering the laptop on, you have wifi ON and 3g OFF
- pressing wireless button once, you have both OFF
- pressing it once again, you have both ON, etc.
So i cannot switch wifi and 3G independently from each other.
What's also not working w/o Launcher?
- Fn + F2 - not critical al all
- Fn + F5 - missing this, but again not critical
- Fn + F6 - very usefull thing for me!
- Fn + Home/End/PgUp/PgDn - not critical al all -
so it would be customizing launcher? not an easy thing to do huh
perhaps we can write to acer to get them fix the launcher. at the moment bearing without launcher.

Pics and some text snipped...
I suggested using nylon tools (eg an iPod opener) and or a dental hook because it's easy to damage the grey plastic shell above the F8 key by levering (which you have to if using screwdrivers).
The small ribbon connector top middle is fiddly and I managed to break off the (beige) plastic lever. I'm a klutz basically but although it's fiddly it's not too hard to fix. If I had to do it again I'd be more careful.
Where are these wires and what are the consequences of pulling them out of their contacts? (or breaking them???) My iPhone doesn't connect or charge as it did before... I'm wondering if I've done this when I pulled the case bottom off (or I suppose it could be some other problem) and if so where do the go back?
Anyway, thank you very much for posting this thread - it's been very useful and I've successfully installed both the bluetooth and the WWAN modules. -
Is there ANYONE in this thread who successfully using ALL of the following:
- 3G modem
- any Windows OS beside one preinstalled by ACER
- Acer's keyboard launcher
? -
buddy i wonder if you are using the below Launcher?
LaunchManager DFU Acer LaunchManager Application 2.0.05 4.2 MB 2009/05/08 -
I've tried many versions, including this one - it's all the same...
-
OK to update I dismantled my laptop again and found nothing amiss. And the wires in question are securely attached.
The USB ports all work fine with memory sticks and my external DVD-RW but won't recognise my iPhone in any socket so I can't recharge it. The lead works fine on my desktop so it's not a mechanical or W7 thing AFAIK.
What could be wrong with my USB ports? -

Hi
I've installed the Sierra MC8775 Module without Launcher and cards works. But I have a very very poor signal. I have installed the antenna under the module and I tried many different positions.
I've installed this antenna
Where should I install the antenna or which antenna should I use ?
Regards
Michael -
I'm struggling to get a decent signal with this aerial too. I contacted the seller in China who agreed that it wasn't very good. I've seen a few on eb*y for various Thinkpads and HP Compaqs etc - are these specific to particular WWAN cards or can they be used in any machine so long as there's a space for them to fit? From memory there are a few void spaces in the 3810T, I guess it'd just be a matter of routeing the cable.
-
I'm using this anntena:
I've bought it with my modem from ebay.
http://cgi.ebay.com/Pair-Laptop-Wir...ultDomain_0?hash=item20adf482ed#ht_3630wt_902
I've placed primary antenna in the space between cardreader's PCB and 2 usb ports, the auxilary one - behind touchpad close to the charging LEDs. Woks good for me.
In order to get an excellent signal I'm planning to put it to the lid close to wifi antennas. The problem is that it requires total disassembly of the whole laptop... -
Thanks Maxim
Am I right in saying that you can use any 3G antenna so long as it fits in the machine?
My modem only comes with one antenna connector so I wouldn't need a pair.
Incidentally, does having two antennae give double the signal (sorry if that's a dumb question!)
....edited to add: Does it give a good signal!!??? -
You are welcome
generally yes. also consider the length of the cable 'cause you could have a place that you couldnt reach if the cable is too short...
older modem models which doesnt support signal equlalizer use only one antenna - main. Newer use second (auxilary) antenna for signal equalization and it gives an advantage in signal. If only one antenna conected to modem with support of two, it should be connected to "main" connector an all will work like an older modem i.e. w/o equalization. If only one antenna conected to auxilary connector of the modem, and nothing is connected to main, it will (most probably) not work at all.
Also it could be important to know that on models which support GPS only aux. antenna is used for GPS; and, what is even more important, aux antenna CANT be used for equalization & GPS simultaneously. It means: when GPS turned on, equalization is immediately turned off.
as I alredy wrote, I have reasonably good signal with this pair.
I hope it will be even better when I'll manage to put the antennas to the top corners of laptops lid...
My advice to you is to buy similar pair antennas (it's damn cheap - just about $4 per pair), and put them both (or at least one of two) to the top of the lid. If it will work then you're done, if not much - then you'll have to consider buying a modem with equalization support (and, thus, two antenna connectors). -
Thanks Maxim.
The item description says that the pair are for wi-fi not 3G - does this make any difference? (sorry, more dumb questions lol) If I can route it around the base (I don't fancy taking the screen apart) if it's 90% as good that'll be fine. Are the newer cards *that* much better though? -
Well, the seller gives me this one with a modem for free, and it works so I'm happy with it
I don't know, if "special" 3g antennas are different (any better) or not.
And I haven't tested if the performance improvement of equalization dramatic or not, just 've read that it's the feature that uses 2 antennas for weak signal improvement. -
Hello guys & gals, who have 3G modem & the issue that keyboard launcher unable to switch on/off wifi&3G.
I've got very good news for you. After many experiments I managed to get working solution.
In order to make it work you should do the following (order of install could also be important)
- Clean install of Windows7
- (very important!) all Windows Updates EXCEPT ALL drivers. Reboot
- chipset driver (from Intel's web site). Reboot
- network card driver (atheros). Reboot
- wifi driver (again fom intel, not Acer). Reboot
- 3g modem driver (in my case - Option). Reboot
- all other drivers (Acer's ATI video, cardreader, webcam, etc.)
- (very important!) PowerSmart Manager 4.07.3008 for Win7
- at last - Launcher 3.0.05
My fault was that I'm was not installing PowerSmart
P.S. Rep.points are appreciated if this one or my earlier posts/links (like service manual or latest Option's firmware) was helpful for you. Thanks. -
Have you done the installation in the screen yet or is the signal strength satisfactory enough not to need go through all the hassle (and risk) of disassembly?
I ordered this: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ACER-ASPIRE-7...Computing_LaptopAccess_RL?hash=item4a9c378329
I'll route it around the keyboard in any reasonable spaces and see what happens! -
Not yet - yes, signal is satisfactory enough so I'm not in hurry. But I'll do it for its sake
-
has anyone managed to get a ssd drive working off the second (mini)sata port yet??
-
The seller point to this post to install the Bluetooth module on the AS1410.
Is it almost the same?
Anyone can help? -
Go to the first page of this thread. Or, even better, to the threads dedicated for 11.6" timelines - that would be more specific...

If I would like to upgrade my 3810T with a mini PCI-e SSD disc, is there something I have to know about? I would like to use the SSD as OS disc, and use the built in HDD for storage, so there is no option to replace the existing HDD.
Thanx! -
Can you post the SSD which you want to use? Because there are PCI-e SSDs out there that do not work (those for some netbooks).
-
Okey, does any of theese ones work? I guess it's only the 3 on the bottom, i have to choose between..? http://www.supertalent.com/products/ssd_category_detail.php?type=Netbook
or
http://www.runcore.com/content/prod...uct_images/RCP-I-M5000th.jpg&GBSize=16GB-64GB
I'm not sure what i should look for.. -
Where can you buy a half-slim SSD to suit this connector? I've read the comments about the Toshiba models but Google only finds press releases, no places to buy.
I would like to install an SSD so I could dual-boot Linux, leaving the 250GB internal drive unmodified for Windows. I have already assigned the miniPCI slot for WWAN. -
Hi All
I've just ordered a 3810TZ (£449 from Comet, bit of a bargain), and I'm looking to pimp it out a bit
If it doesn't have bluetooth when it arrives, I'll put that straight in, but what is interesting me is the SATA port on the side of the mobo. To me, it looks the same as a normal SATA connector, and in fact the link to the small form factor mSATA looks different. So is it DEFINITELY not the same as regular SATA? An SSD would be epic in this laptop imo.
Thanks,
Phil -
Here's another idea for the mini PCIe slot...
I found this on ebay:
And by the looks of it, it looks like it could fit inside (like a glove as it seems) in the highlightet area on the pictur below. The thing is just this... I don't know if the extra room on the top, hold someting from the top part of the PC after assembly.
If someone is able to tell if that room is available after the comuter is put back together, I will be most gratefull.
The idea is of course to fit a CF-reader in there, and fill it with a CF-card. Options of dualbooting on a 16GB CF could be nice for linux, or maybe a 32 GB of the faster CF-cards would be ideal for OS, and HDD for storage.
EDIT: Forgot link to ebay on the CF-reader: http://cgi.ebay.com/CF-mini-PCI-e-e...emQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item3efb78c406 -
Another question, during my decrapifying process, I seem to have uninstalled the application which displays the nice little icons on screen when you turn stuff on and off (powersmart, volume, wireless etc...), and I don't know what it is to reinstall it!
Thanks

Hey guys I'm planing to upgrade/tune my Aspire 3810T a bit. According to that I downloaded the service Manual from Acer and now I'm wondering if my 3810T has two mPCI Ports. Can I install a 3G Modem and a Decodercard for H.264 at the same time?
Thanks -
Wuuld this method work on 1810tz?
-
Great thread.
Has anyone considered using the mini PCIe for a TV tuner card? Any info on the reception of an internally mounted antenna?

Hello,
Unfortunately there is only one spare mini PCI Express port Aspire 3810x. I made a near-full disassembly for Bluetooth module and did not see a third one. One of the two ports is already filled with short-PCB Intel WiFi ( or WiFi+WiMAX depending on where you have bought the computer) card.
Now I am using Intel Turbo Memory on the spare port and when I'll upgrade for an SSD I'll use the port for a HSDPA modem ( yes, I already have a SIM slot on my Aspire 3810TG).
Regards. -
Hey There!
It would be nice but I do not know if anybody verified that that if that port is usable. Somebody might connect an optical drive taken from another notebook to check that.
If it works, we should search for a special made adapter to use that interface for anything useful. Since that drives mentioned your post dd not show up anywhere on the planet.
Regards. -
Hy guys!
This may be a bit Off-topic, but you guys succesfully disassembled the 3810T notebook, so maybe you can help me.
I have a 3810T, and my problem is:
I hear a clicking sound in every 10s, from inside the notebook. It is not the sound of the HDD, becaouse I changed the original HDD (which was very loud) to a new one, and it didn't solve the problem.
I have sent my laptop back to Acer twice, first becaouse of the callback (i mentioned my problem and they gave me a new HDD), second with my clicking sound poblem , but they sent me back with "Everything works perfectly"
I don't know what to do, so maybe somone can help me (had the same problem) or somebody has a solution for this problem.
thx a lot
amosh -
Ok, problem solved!
I get myself together and pop out the keyboard. The cooling fan was simply stucked, a gave it a litle push, and now it is working well. I'm wondering if turn it on and off will it stuck again, but i'll try it later, and post the results, maybe someone interested in it.

This is a great post, indeed. I want to share my personal experience.
After reading an seeing the pictures taken by the original poster, I decided to take apart my 3810tz.
Originally all I wanted was adding an extra WiFi card in the extra PCI-E slot. It was an old Atheros ath5k card (for wireless auditory purposes). It worked flawlessly, out of the box, in both Windows 7 and Back Track Linux.
Then I remembered I had a burnt hp Pavilion dv2000 somewhere, collecting dust. I took it apart, too, and got its Bluetooth module, which happens to be very similar to the one many of you are getting from China.
Guess what: it worked beautifully. Again, both in Windows 7 and in Back Track Linux. Windows' Device Manager shows it as an "HP Integrated module". Well. Who cares. It works!
Thanks to all of you, especially to those who had the nerve to disassembly this little thing in order to see how to take advantage of its full capabilities.
Best regards,
-JM. -

hi,
i have been reading this post for some time and in meantime I ordered Sierra MC8775 modem.
I installed it and it worked like a charm
Even launch manager is working with no problems
Thank you guys for so much input. -
Where did you download the drivers from? I have been surfing for the driver for MC8780. Are you using win 7 (64 bit)?
-
Yes, I am using Win7 64bit, i got drivers from guy that sold me modem.
I can email it to you.
Watcher software i downloaded somewhere on internet
I could not get it from sierra website. -
What antenna are you using? How is the signal?
http://cgi.ebay.com.sg/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260549125585&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT
This? -
Yes I am using that antenna, signal is ok.
could be better but it is not that bad.
I installed it over usb connectors so maybe metal housing over usb is boosting it up a little bit !?! -
Many thanks, I was very reluctant to disassemble the entire laptop in order to install a better antenna. I will probabbly just leave the antenna on top of the card. Now i just need to verify that MC8780 is compatiable to 3810TG. =)
Cheers -
Hi,
