How does 1 accomplish a thorough cleaning of said laptop? Currently I just vacuum all holes in the laptop and wipe the entire exterior with screen cleaner.

Fred, the backplate of the notebook (where you access RAM, HDD, CPU etc.) had a mesh screen between the vents and the intake fan. This thing gets clogged up like CRAZY with dust, so feel free to de-schmutz it with some compressed air...or hearty blowing.

Lol funny thing is, when I opened my laptop to put in RAM, it was dusty. And that was only like a month after I bought it.

Putting in certain parts like memory and hard drive are fairly easy, don't be afraid. There is a manual floating around I believe.

Putting RAM in is actually so easy. Google for any laptop RAM installation guide.

Yes you can, but it's a tricky operation that involves the removal of the fan and heatsink, and replacing the thermal compound on both the new CPU and the GPU (common heatpipe for the lose). Don't do it unless you are absolutely POSITIVE that you know what you're doing.

That being said, it certainly made my system a lot snappier, moving from a T5550 to a T8300.

with the new washing powders you could put it in the washing machine on 30 cool wash, but use a slow spin, as the fast spin will damage the laptop:laugh:

    only joking :p

    Have a great Xmas

Somewhere in between, Awake. Certain programs that were limited by my CPU speed (certain games, video encoding, virus scans, etc.) have been sped up, and power-button-to-usable-system is 15-30 seconds faster by my estimates.
