I run a home studio, and I own an acer 5745 laptop.

Even when a mics plugged in the laptop the onboard still pics stuff up.

I've tried to go in the control panel and disable the recording mic but in my program, it still pics up stuff from the onboard.

    Any suggestions?

right click the speaker icon on your notification area, bottom right of screen, then click recording devices, then right click microphone and click disable.

I'm afraid that did not work. I initially tried that but It did not work.

though disabled, i'm able to open my recording program, with HD audio selected as the recording input, and it still pics up the sound,.

Could the solution be in the sound program you are using ? rather than looking under windows.

Don't know what sound driver you have on your Acer but seem to remember there is an option in the Realtek control panel to "turn down" the mic... a slider... which is something I had to do as mine picked up noise from me typing on keyboard.

How about switching the input in your recording program (dumb question)?

EDIT: I just did a quick test. I disabled my internal microphone, changed the input in Audacity to Stereo Mix, and recorded 15 seconds of sound while I tapped the frame of my system, including right on the microphone. In playback, there was only the silence from the stereo mix.

A reboot might also help, just thinking out loud.

I would get out a soldering iron and remove the internal mic.
