not sure what an erecovery dvd is.. but i'd definitely ghost image (or something equivalent) that drive before you do any type of reformatting.. save yourself alot of headache if it doesnt work out..

Will probably need an OEM Widows disc to do a clean install.

DO EXACTLY WHAT BOTH ABOVE SAID!!!!

Load back drivers from acer site (depending on which drivers you want).

If you want you should also try and save a couple of programs like Cyberlink Power producer & Cyberlink DVD, or what ever else came bundled. Just save the whole folder on from the program files section on disk.

P.S ... If your trying to use eRecovery DVD/CD after NTFS convert, It might just convert it back to FAT32 or it might not work at all. eRecovery might not be an option. BUT I'M JUST GUESSING, NEVER TRIED ERECOVERY ON NTFS.

I loaded a fresh install of Windows XP Pro SP2 on my 5102 with all drivers from Acer with no issues at all, but like livefrmnyc said, it won't come with all that software preinstalled, so if you don't have it on hard copy......

    That would be piracy
Just find a torrent of windows xp home sp2 OEM (your serial # won't work with the retail or pro)
And use the key found at the bottom of your lappy
