    Hello!

I just registered to this forum, it's great and I learned a lot!

But now I have a question..:

I bought an Aspire 5100, and I like it a lot! But there came no
XP disk with it, instead the windows image was on the HD.

Fine installation went fine. But I'd just like to get a disk with
only XP on it, without any other SW installed. So I could
do a clean installation of Windows, re-partition the disks etc. etc.
But how to get this? there is a folder i386 on the disk, is this XP?

Your help will be greatly appreciated!

If you want a clean xp install, then the only legal choice is to go to microsoft/any computer store and purchase an xp cd.

Other than that, I'm sure there are illegal ways to aquire an xp cd, but I'm not going to talk about that, nor condone such actions.

    Thanks for your answer!

Butl I don't need/want any illegal software, because I have a valid OEM key on the back of my laptop. Uhmm I just need the WindowsDisk, and I actually have the "Windows Media Center 2005 edition" I forgot to mention. Loads of discussions about this issue (how to get a clean installation of windows) but not for the the Aspire 5100... Please anybody help!

Well, you can acquire a copy of XP OEM legally provided you have an OEM key. I'd just borrow an OEM CD off a friend and use your own key cause that is still legal for sure.

Will it work where one has a key for Multimedia Version on back of his Acer to re-install an OEM regular XP version?

I wonder how many users keep the Acer installed software as it came? How many do a re-install and reformat the hard drive and eleminate all the Acer added software?

No,the key that you got at the bottom of your lappy will work ONLY with the system that came with your laptop,if you bought Acer with MCE you can't install XP Pro/Home with that key.

    I would say many,including me :) .

You can try to get an OEM cd for the system that came with your lappy at your local PC service.
It worked for me,I bought OEM Home Edition SP2 Cd the other day for 5 € :D .

OK found the solution to the problem, thanks for all your help!
I found the right media on internet and burned to a disk.
used my own key, and all works fine, didn't need to call MS or antyhing.
    All fine and legal!

    Thanks a lot!
