    hi there

I'm so so happy with that forum because i have solved many problems and have improved my knowledge about notebooks so thanks to all of NBR members

before that time I'm searching on how to get free hotmail/msn accounts works with outlook that because i know that my new acer computer has a button that can flash when i receive new e-mail
after that i discovered that i can use Thunderbird [(Firefox vs Internet explorer) / (Thunderbird vs Outlook Express or it's new name in vista)] :p with an extension help to use free hotmail and other service with Thunderbird so i hope that my lid is flash when i receive new email

does any one have done that and can help me

and i have other question not about acer
how can i let the problem check for my e-mail automatically so i don't have to click get mail every time

    thanks

Install Launch Manager. Right click on the icon in task bar, click "email detecton." The program does not work with gmail or hotmail as they use a 9090 port. The Acer program does not support such a port.

I believe hotmail premium has the same issues. A ISP based email works best.

It's no way that mail client other than "Launch Manager" could make mail LED flash. It's nothing to do with the port.
LED is activated by ACPI command which no mail client app could do it.
There IS a thunderbird extension like "Thunderled", but I don't think it could work on Acer laptop.

Acer's Launchmanager asks for your POP3 settings. This is so it can check the POP3 server for new mail. The email client is irrelevant.

I see. So you just want to change port number in launch manager?
The setting file is located on %windir%\ChkMail.Ini
Port number cannot be changed in "Mail check" screen, but you can modify the ini file directly.

    good luck!

Pardon me, but where is this file? I tried a search for chkmail.ini in the entire C drive but couldn't find it. Can you please elaborate a little more?

I wonder why hasn't anyone written a better program than the original launch manager supplied by Acer. How difficult is it to add a port configure interface?

I sure hope to get it to work with Gmail, though with Ypop I got it to work with Yahoo. Still the software is far from robust.
