Hello all,
Sorry if this is the stupid question but I 've never tried installing Linux on any of my computers.
I have Acer1410 and after reading alot about Ubuntu I want to install it on my Acer. Once again - I have no clue how to do it, what do I need and etc. My installation expirience is Windows XP, Vista, 7.
At present time I have Windows7 on my Acer. I want to create second partition for Ubuntu and have some type of boot menu with a choice.
Is there any guide avialable for dummies like me on How to install Ubuntu, where to get it from, how to make dual boot on Acer and etc.
Please help if someone has an expirience and information.
Thank you and sorry for my English.

Just out of curiosity do you have an external optical drive, or will you have to install it from a jump drive?
Also, I make sure you to back your data up before you install ubuntu. -
Ok, what I got already is Ubuntu Netbook Edition burned to my USB stick. I got it from Ubuntu official website.
Now it is time to understand how to install it with Dual Boot option on my HDD.
Here is the link for Ubuntu which I found very usefull:

I wouldn't install the netbook edition. The standard 64 bits runs trouble free and very fast, and is much nice to use than the netbook edition

OK the first thing you need to do is defragment windows if you have not recently. After you are done defragmenting you bring up the start menu in windows right click on computer then click on mange, then on the widow that comes up click on disk management. Then click on the partition with windows7, then right click on that partition then click shrink volume, then shrink the partition to where there is enough space for ubuntu.
After this you boot up the ubuntu usb stick, then go to install, you will have to answer some questions and whatnot, then when you get to the partitioning stage choose use largest continuous free space. There will be some more screens, but eventually ubuntu should offer to install the grub bootloader and it should offer to boot windows7.
I could not find a guide I liked for 9.10 and windows7 but here is a guide for vista and 9.04 that should help you if my postconfused you or something.

Thank you very much for your suggestions. Now I have both Ubuntu Netbook Remix and Windows 7 on my Acer.
It is time now to understand how all this Linux stuff works
By the way I was EXTREMELLY surprise how smooth Ubuntu installs on Acer. I was always assuming that Linux installation is always a pain, especially from the HW and Drivers side. But this time (actually first installation of Linux in my life) it went quick and well. Looks like so far I have all drivers installed. My video resolution is OK, I have sound, I have webcam running. Plus my wireless works well.
Tell me what interesting I can do with Ubuntu ?
