I am interested to know which method people here use to install the Catalyst drivers for their mobility cards. My laptop (Acer Aspire 1692 WLMi) has a 64MB x700 Mobility Radeon card..and simply opening the latest Catalysts 5.8 downloaded setup from ATI's site doesn't seem to work, the setup programs says that it can't find any compatible cards where the driver can be installed for. So I wanted to know how other installed it, maybe via the Device managers?

    Thanks in advance :)

Go to www.omegadrivers.net - there you can download the latest modded ATi Catalyst drivers - and they have a few nice tweaks that allows your video to be noticably faster - the 5.7 ones are the latest on the site, I expect to see the 5.8 soon.

I saw a good increase with the 5.7 over the stock Acer drivers - mainly because I have a 64MB card and the 5.7 enable Hypermemory ;)

You need to unzip it to somewhere first. Unzip it to the desktop, then Double click the setup launcher - should have a red, square icon. That will guide you throught the setup process.

No need to uninstall the old drivers - I didn't, works fine.

If you want to uninstall them, as it's probably safer, then go into Add/Remove programs, and you'll see the "ATi Display Driver" in there.

I think that all X700s are M26, since that's the chip designation?
