    Hi everybody.

A couple days ago I have burned some microcontroller on my TimelineX. The great part of that it that cardreader packed into 3820T is standalone board.
Question is: Does anybody know where to buy card reader board or maybe someone can post high resolution picture with it so I can find and replace it. Other options are also welcome!

At the moment card reader is working just fine except that 2 USB ports hosted on it are broken. I guess that USB microcontroller is located on the mainboard as 3rd USB post works just fine.

The burned out chip looks like the usb controller, there should be another one the same on the motherboard near to the other usb port. You could get the part no from the other chip and look for a replacement chip only, not too hard to do with a small tipped soldering iron.
Your best bet is probably to look on ebay both for a replacement board or chip.

    No.
Additionally, USB controller and hubs are part of the motherboard chipset (which seems to be intact).
So you might have nuked another chip (how did this happen, just curious). I'd suggest to see if you can get a replacement cirquit board. I ebay does not give suffient results, you might contact MK Electronic (Germany, official supplier of Acer spare parts) if they can help.

I think you're stuck with MK. There are a couple of other Acer parts dealers but not here in North America. I have not seen TimelineX parts on Ebay, other than a replacement display or a jeyboard. I don't think they'll sell you one at the TempleTexas Depot. Be prepared for a very expensive shipping charge from MK.

The chip controls the power to the usb so I guess I should have said usb power controller chip or even its proper name USB High-Side Power Switch. They can be blown quite easily if you overload or short the usb port.
These chips are very cheap, easy to find and easy to replace if you have basic skills with a soldering iron.

Hmm... I don't know why you are going through all the trouble when you can just pack-up the laptop and RMA it? Let them repair it for you! Or explain that it is the cardreader board that needs to be replaced (since your other USB is working) and ask them to send you the part since you have some "technical skills". They will ask for credit card into, send you the part, you replace it and send the old one back. Will be way quicker than let them repair it for you. I have done this before with a couple of Acers and apart from taking a bit of time to convince them, I never had a problem.

    Cheers!

    Dear cashwo

Could you instruct me how I can order USB High-Side Power Switch with given G528 part number information?

Is it similar to this one? LM3526 - Dual Port USB Power Switch and Over-current Protection

The G528 and LM3526 are similar as they perform the same function, however the pins have different assignments so they are not interchangeable.
You need to get the number from the chip on your board before you look for a replacement part. If you search for the part no you find and "equivalent" you will find similar parts that can be used instead.
Parts can be sourced from most major suppliers like RS-online though many are available through ebay sellers too.
If you do have the G528 or can`t find a source for your chip let me know and I could look through my spares for you

    Dear Cashwo

That's why I asked folk from forum if anybody could post picture of board so I can precisely identify part number of controller. Otherwise it is blind guess of what to solder instead of burned part.

I don`t have any spares from your model of laptop, too new, so I can`t give you the chip number myself. I gave you the G528 number as an example of what the chips were, sorry if you misunderstood.
But if you look on your own motherboard, close to your working usb port you will find another chip exactly the same as the burned out one on your cardreader/usb board.

    Thanks for everybody for advices!
I contacted local supplier of acer spare parts (Lithuania) and got an offer to order a new card reader board for approximately 33 euro.
Additionally I will try to repair board by soldering new power switch, like this one ( http://focus.ti.com/lit/ds/symlink/tps2041b.pdf, TPS2041B)

    Dear Cashwo

The idea to find exactly same power switch might be a wrong one doe to usage needs. On the right side there is only one USB port so manufacturer could place controller with only one output; on the left side there is 2 USB ports + 1 card reader, e.g. there is a need for 3 outputs and therefor different configuration.

Anyway, thank you for your advices and time!

Glad to hear you have managed to find a replacement part for you laptop.
The chips are ONLY for supplying power to the usb, your cardreader gets its power from elsewhere. The chips are able to supply 1 OR 2 usb ports, and so far I have not seen a laptop where the chips were different (occasionally different part numbers but still interchangeable)

Hi everyone. I'm looking for a Card Reader/USB board as well because I want to make the backlit keyboard mod soldering the wires on one of the two USB ports of this board. I want to do it on a spare board not on the original, so if I have to send back my notebook for repairing I just have to replace the USB board and put the original again and my warranty is safe.

Do you know where I can find one? I mean do you know a shop that sells this part on the Internet? I can't find it.

    Thank you guys
