Hello. I'm new to this whole notebook scene, so I probably have little idea of what I'm talking about, but I recently ordered an Acer Aspire 3003LMI and would like to make sure no one can eavesdrop on what I'm doing or grab my files out of the air.
I was wondering if anyone knows how to physically disable the wireless capabilities.
There was no option to buy a new laptop without WIFI or Bluetooth or whatever.

Yeah i know
Goto
Start/Settings/Control pannle/Administrative tools/Computer Management;
in the left hand menu select and expand System tools then goto device manager, in the main expandable menu select Network Adapers and expand it, in here there is your wireless device mines called Broadcom 802.11g Network Adapter yours will be something simular right click it and select disable. Now the device will be turned off to enable it again right click and select enable.
btw if you dont have the wireless active (through device manager or whatever) and you are not connected to a network nothing can acsess your computer. so theres not much point in disableing it. And if your connected to the net through the wireless and have the appropreate firewalls and anti viruses installed then nothing will be able to get in anyway. -
Also turn on he encryption on your router. This way no one else can access your network. If you want more security you can also turn on MAC filtering which will only allow known laptops on the network. -
well seeing as he/she said he would have wanted to buy a laptop without wireless i presumed he/she wouldnt be useing it

But I'm not entirely satisified that disabling drivers or turning anything off will do the trick.
I was thinking more along the lines of removing cards and antennas. -

I really just want to know how difficult it would be to do this with the Aspire 3003 if I wanted to.
There doesn't seem to be a complete service manual anywhere online. -
Disableing it how i told you would mean that it cannt be turned on in anyway it gets disabled on the motherboard the only way to re activate it would be to do the opposite to what i said. plus you can unistall the drivers so the computer wont be able to recognize it evan if you do reactivate it.
whats the big deal with it anyway?
if you realy want to remove it from the motherboard it is possible. but i wouldnt recommended it plus to remove the areal you will have to take the screen appart. and in doing so you will most likely void your warrenty.
