I am wanting to upgrade my 8204 to a faster DVD Burner. I am wanting the NEC-6750a here:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16827152069

I had the NEC 6500a in my acer 8006wlmi and loved it and was easy to upgrade. Just took the adapter off the original drive and attached to the new.

In the case of the 8204, the connector on the original drive is already in the rear-center of the drive.

In other words I can't simply take the adapter off the original and attach to the new. Any suggestions? Anyone already upgraded their drive? Is there an adapter that would work or is it just not compatible?

Also, I'm generally happy with the 8204. No buzzing noises etc.. The screen is a little dim compared to the 8006 but it is decent as I usually keep it at about 80% brightness. I did purchase a DVI to HDMI cable from Ebay to attach the 8204 to my 40" Sony Bravia LCD with nice results.

90% of the time there is always one thing I am not happy with,
I returned the Toshiba G35 beacuse the screen was too bright (glossy) and also was too heavy.
I returned the Ferrari 4005 because I didnt like the processor, ( I couldnt get the machine to play windows media high def movies without being extremely jerky.

In the case of the 8204, I'm gonna keep it a while :)
