I was trying to make a image of my current system state with erecovery, but it froze at 25% after about an hour
I had to reset the computer with the power button
Is this program good for making backups? should I even bother trying again?

I have had zero issues with eRecovery. And I am therefore a big supporter of it.
The most important thing though is to respect the PQ Service partition.
And to leave it alone. No matter what you are told.
There is no need to get rid of it as it takes up very little space on your huge HDD.
In your case derrickmartin, the PQ Service partition could be corrupted.
Hence the failed recovery of your system.
Awaiting other replies here

Agreed! I've used eRecovery several times since buying my Acer Travelmate 8204 back in 2/06, and it's worked without a hiccup each time. Quicker to restore my harddrive to factory settings than the recovery discs I burned when I got it.
Main point: DON'T erase the hidden recovery partition! It only takes a few GB, and can be a life-saver! -
The PQ Service is not like an itch. So don't scratch it.

Unless you're like me and have somehow wiped it out without knowing it.
Whoopsie. -

sorry I wasn't very clear,
what im wondering about is the User Backup function (which I think is supposed to image the drive), because I don't really feel like getting Acronis or Norton Ghost. -
I have never tried the User Backup function.
Not necessary really as Acer provides their drives with 3 partitions:
1. PQ Service (or the hidden partition). That is where all your drivers and OS reside. Best to leave alone.
2. C. Thats where installed programs go.
3. D. Thats where you should save valuable data or files etc.
If you choose to do a System Recovery, D will not be affected. Safe as houses.
Only C is wiped clean. And the OS is re-installed here. Works like a dream. Every time.

I just use Windows Complete PC Backup, since I upgraded to Vista Ultimate.

Ok lets act as good doctors ...
Check your free space before you start the backup .
I agree D: its the right place , but make your life easy , by uninstalling old games, and delete old files of yours.
Oups i got you .... did you made your D: NTFS ??? Or your C: ??
How well does eRecovey work?
