I've got a TravelMate 2601. It only came with a 20gb hard drive so I've got a new 60gb 7200rpm Hitachi coming. Is it hard to swap out drives on this machine? I don't even know yet where the hard drive is located.

Ok, so I got to looking around and the hard drive is located behind the battery. No tools required... pull the battery and there is a plastic tab you can pull on to get the hard drive out. Here's a couple pics...

No, it's not hard at all. Wha tI would recommend though, is buying an enclosure and Norton Ghost. This will let you copy over an exact copy of the files on your machine to the new drive. You should be able to swap the drives and be good to go. The other benefit is you have the enclosure for the old drive so it can be used for backups, files, etc. There are a ton of threads on this sort of thing, do a forums search for more details.

Thanks Brian but I won't need Ghost as this will be a fresh install.
Don't need the enclosure for backups either, my home network has around 2 terrabytes of storage available.
Was really just nervous about working inside a notebook I'd just spend a $1,000 on but now that I know that memory and hard drive are user serviceable I should be fine.
I'll sure be back when I goto upgrade the CPU though!!
