I just bought an Acer Aspire 5100 and it seems ok... On the front of it there is a sticker that says "ATI RADEON XPRESS 1100", and it says the same thing on the palmrest sticker featuring all the specs. It was the only model that featured the ATI sticker on it... led me to believe that it was a stand alone video card.
When I go in and look at the device properties, it shows ATI RADEON XPRESS 200M series.
A.) is the 1100 Xpress model supposed to be a stand alone video card (not shared memory)
and
B.) Are these 2 completely different cards? I want what I paid for...
Please reply to dfitt AT velsoft.com so I can find out asap... I'm returning this thing if I got ripped off...
Thanks in advance...

I *think* they are different cards, with the 200M being the lesser...it goes look like you were ripped. Sorry...

The x1100 is replacement for 200M. It is intergrated not stand alone.
The OS most likey tags it as the 200M because of the newest of the chipset. I am sure that you got what you paid for. -
It the replacement for the 200m series, they are pretty much same spec I believe, so that why your system is reporting it as 200m, since its so new.
According to ATI the integrated 3d chip is a MR X300 See Here so it should be a bit faster than the 200m. Have you run an benchamrks on it yet (3dmark etc) Be interesting to see how it scores. -

NO you didn't get ripped off. Go to Acer's support site, and download the latest drivers. That fixes the problem!! I've reported on this a lot, so just browse teh forums.
I bought this based on the video card... did I get ripped off?
