I just rented 3 HD-DVD movies to look at just how much detail they have on my 5920G(with HD-DVD drive). When I try to play, it says that a critical component of the player requires periodic updates, and that some movies might not play without them. I update it, and as I expected, it gives the same response and nothing has changed. Is there another update I should download(I tried cyberlink)? How else can I get it to work?
Like 2-3 months ago I did change my graphics driver(some modded nVIDIA one), does that have a huge impact? I don't know if I want to change my driver again because I went through a huge dilemma with that(it wouldn't let me install the new driver so I was stuck in 800 x 600) where it took me an entire day to realize I had to download a standard VGA driver before I could download a new driver.

It could be the movie player. Some players don't support HD-DVD

First of all go back to the stock driver and for the new HDDVDs run AnyHDdvd from Slysoft (the latest version) in the background.
If it works - try other drivers to keep up to speed with the latest games. Some of them don't support HDDVD playback. -
I remember reading a problem like this in the past and it was definitely caused by the modified drivers. Apparently those don't work with HD-DVD so you have to revert to the stock ones that came with your Acer.

I remember a long time ago that one of the forum members from Sri Lanka here told me that a modded driver(that he used himself) would make the performance of my laptop better. I haven't really noticed a huge increase, but changing my driver is a scary process. I went through a scary hour or two thinking that my laptop would never be able to get a graphics driver on it ever again(it wouldn't let me install); I thought that I had lost $1100 because there was no way I was going to use the laptop without its video driver.
Is this the way you guys do it: uninstall your current driver, install a standard VGA driver, and then download the new driver over it?
I remember another thread months back about how someone downloaded the same driver(that came with the Aspire) over the exact same driver and for some reason it was still causing problems. I will go back to the original(at least try, though it's going to be scary). Well I just watched one of my movies successfully(We Were Soldiers, GREAT MOVIE!), but 300 is yet to work. So I just download the driver, and then you guys can tell me from there. -
This is interesting: it seems that when I restart my computer, the HD-DVDs will work. Is it still worth switching back to the real driver?

Can anyone tell me how they changed their driver in detail?

See my post here, load the Toshiba driver as indicated. Should work better, although my Arcade still work with the newest HD-DVDs.
Cheers.

Oh, you may have to uninstall the current driver and reboot before doing the Tosh install as indicated in the post (when you uninstall it reverts to some standard VGA driver).
I can't play HD-DVD on Acer Arcade Deluxe!
