i formatted my brand new 5672 to combine partitions and get rid of all the crap acer put on it. I installed everything fine except i cant get the camera to work. The camera drivers from acer website install fine but it doesnt detect it. Also do i need to install the drivers with e in front of them for 5672, the ones with acer utilities. Any benefit to have them?
-
anyone with any ideas?
-
may be its something wrong in ur winxp
-
there is no benefit to the "e"crap.
as for the camera -- works fine for me. I may have downloaded the Logitech OrbiCam drivers found on Google, though. as of build 5472 there are Vista drivers in Windows Update. -
i'll try looking for different drivers , the camera worked fine when i first got the laptop before i formatted and the pc detects it too i just cant install the right drivers for it. Also the drivers from ATI.com are not supported by the 5672, is that normal. I get a msg that my laptop manufacturer is not supported and i should contact my company.
-
can you give me a link to the drivers? i cant seem to find them.
-
I had the same problems as the originial poster. In Device Manager the camera was a yellow question mark. I've done the install of the OrbiCam package (AS5670_Orbicam_9.4.0.1120) with both the application install and the driver only install. The application and driver appear in Add/Remove Programs. I've removed them both and tried installing them in the other order. I've also tried pointing the driver install to "AS5670_Orbicam_9.4.0.1120\CCD\Drivers\WinNew\321" the only place with valid inf files, which did not work either.
I noticed that Properties->Details->Hardware Ids [from Device Manager] has this listed:
USB\Vid_046d&Pid_0896&Rev_0100
USB\Vid_046d&Pid_0896
The lv321v.inf file has entries for Pid_0892, not Pid_0896. I did a search and replace for PID_0892 to PID_0896 and repointed the driver install at the directory. The camera was found and worked after I did this, but the tracking thing does not work (the VisageON->Enable/Disable Face Tracking options are grayed out as well as Reset Camera Position). I have a feeling that my particular 5672 notebook has a newer version of the camera and the drivers aren't updated for it.
Please let me know if there is another solution out there... or if your camera works fine can you list the Hardware Ids? -
An alternative is to downloading and install the Logitech Drivers. Read this thread.
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=63357 -
I have previously read that thread and downloaded the QuickCam Orbit drivers (qc848enu.exe). These drivers do not work, could you provide the product or filename of the drivers that worked for you?
Also, I called Acer about this and they were decidedly unhelpful. They weren't willing to help me because I don't have "Acer Windows" (I've deleted the original partitions and did not create a backup CD). I pointed out the PID from the drivers were different from the PID of the hardware and stressed the point that there is no difference with driver creation between Home and Pro and all I want is the drivers they originally put on the laptop. The tech (unfortunatly I didn't get his name) was unable to help me in that regard, so I requested his supervisor. He went through this whole big thing about it being a call back and not worth it and I kept saying that was fine, I just wanted to hear from his supervisor why they don't have the latest drivers on the website... and he hung up on me. -
I installed "is730.enu" - Logitech Imagestudio and "qc848enu.exe" - Logitech QuickCam"
Try installing the QuickCam drivers (if you haven't already). Then install the Logitech Imagestudio program.
Run Imagestudio
Click on the "Create Pictures and Videos" tab
On the left panel under the image window (probably blank in your case) and above the "Record a Video" button click on the "Change Camera Setting Button"
Click on the "Advanced camera settings..." button
On the video tab, under the "Setting for camera" do you have a camera selected. It should say Acer Orbicam -
the drivers from acer and logitech dont work for the camera , windows detects it but there are no drivers that work for it
-
Did you install the Logitech Imagestudio Program after installing the drivers?
-
-
risslerp, are you endorsing the logitech drivers over the Acer ones? Are they better? I have a 5672 with an orbicam that is working albeit slowly. The motion is jerky and dimly lit. Should I attempt the switch over or leave well enough alone? Is it worth it? TIA,
Talon -
Try turning off the low light boost in the driver, this should remove the jerkiness. Also with the Logitech driver you have control of shutter (exposure) speed from 1/3 sec to 1/1000 sec and there is a gain control. Other controls of interest are Brightness, Contrast, Sharpness, White Balance, Gamma and Backlight Compensation (which can be especially useful).
Basically it comes down to how much you use the camera, if alot I say get the Logitech Driver and Software. If not much, then keep the Acer Stuff. -
I have the Acer drivers installed without a problem on a clean XP SP2 install. But everytime I start the camera, I get "Camera is in use by another application" . . . over and over again. It worked OK when I first reinstalled XP. I have two Acer 5672 notebooks (one for my wife), and the same problem is on both. I've read others having the same problem, but no where do I have a solution. Any body with any experiences and/or ideas?
-
Hey jdkallio, how did you resolve the cam issue? I don't quite understand how you changed the PID numbers. Thanks.
-
I read somewhere about someone using Euro drivers for the Orbicam. I tried it and now the Acer Orbicam icon shows up in My computer, but theres nothing in the viewer, just black.
Any one have anymore ideas? -
Recently I bought an Acer 5672. It appeared slow and I decided to format
it. After that I installed Windows, I downloaded all the drivers from
Acer's site. All drivers worked fine, except the driver for the
"OrbiCam", the "AS5670_Orbicam_9.4.0.1120" driver. So I tried to search
something on the internet about this problem and I got here. I
tried to use the Logitech driver too, but it didn't work. Does anyone have
any idea to fix it??? I didn't update my windows XP, maybe I have to
do this to the Cam works. I'll try it and after that I'll describe the result
here... -
i guess the camera in the new 5672's is newest version then the drivers so they dont work together and unless acer updates their drivers were out of luck with newly bought 5672s. Unless someone can get the stuff needed for the camera out of someones newly bought 5672 that still has the original install. thouse drivers must be the newones because the camera works out of the box just not using any kind of drivers out there.
-
So I wait.
I made a recovery cd right when I got it, so would I be able to get the drivers out of that? -
Right Click My Computer, Properties
Hardware Tab
Device Manager
Double Click the yellow question mark (camera)
Details Tab
Choose Harware Ids in the drop down box
Mine looks like this:
USB\Vid_046d&Pid_0896&Rev_0100
USB\Vid_046d&Pid_0896
This fix is only if it says Pid_0896 (the drivers are written for Pid_0892).
Download the Orbicam drivers from ASUS' website and unpack them
Navigate to <unpack directory>\CCD\Drivers\WinNew\321
Open the lv321.inf file in notepad (double clicking it should open it in notepad)
Edit, Replace
Find what: 0892
Replace with: 0896
Replace All
Save
Go back to Device Manager, Double click the camera
Driver Tab
Update Driver
Install from list or specific location
Include this location: <unpack directory>\CCD\Drivers\WinNew\321
This should get the camera working.
I called Acer about this issue and asked them to get the latest drivers on the website (they obviously have them because they come installed). The tech went from saying that the drivers for XP Home and Professional are different (!), to the newest drivers are on the website, to the the drivers are only for the "Acer Edition" of Windows (!!), to there is nothing he could do. When I asked to talk to his manager he hung up on me. I don't expect Acer to have a real fix for this anytime soon. -
I faced the same problem, but I solved it by using the driver from acer Euro site especially the one at acer UK website.
To install camera driver succefuly you need to Uninstall it first, and install again to rollback all the changes you made to the driver version as you mentioned in your post after that download the software from acer UK website and do the setup.
Hope this help -
weird i just installed the camera by pointing the driver reinstall thing to \CCD\Drivers\WinNew\321 instead of just the entire ccd folder and i didnt change anythign in the file from 96 to 92. hope thing helps

Gradius -
Alright so I did the thing about changing 892 to 896, I installed and even restarted the comp just for good measure. I open up My Computer, doube click on Acer Orbicam, but all I get is a black rectangle after it says "Initializing device."
So I don't know. I have XP Pro, btw.
Sigh... -
-
I have tried the US and UK drivers, and the device installs using BOTH, however, when starting the software, the "camera is in use by another application" . . . I can't get around this issue. I will try the other driver that Gradius posted above. Anybody else having this issue? I'm using XP Pro SP2 clean install. Thanks.
-
1- Remove the driver softwar then Uninstall camera driver and restart your notebook
2- Download the driver software from UK acer website and run it.
After completing these steps your camera will functions propperly. -
Still no go . . . the driver installs fine and recognizes the camera (just like the US version did), but the won't see the picture b/c "the camera is in use by another device" . . . can't figure it out! The driver is installing fine, but I can't figure out what program is using the **** device. Nothing shows up in windows task manager . . . I even tried manually shutting down every non-system program in task manager and still no go. Anybody?

You mentioned earlier you installed 2 pieces of software for the same driver and once this happen you will endup with this kind of error message! My advice to you to follow what I wrotte in my old post:
Follow these steps:
1- Remove the driver softwar (Both of them) then Uninstall camera driver and restart your notebook
2- Download the driver software from UK acer website and run it. I refer to this website only because its the write version.
After completing these steps your camera will function propperly. -
Hello everybody!
I found this when searching for the same solution:
Quote:
"There is currently a driver problem with Microsoft ACPI and it causes the USB controller to continually drain power. Microsoft has acknowledged the problem and is working on a fix. So that will mean at least another hour if not more of battery power. The problem only occurs when you have plugged a USB device in, but the problem with the TravelMate is the built in Logitec Orbicam uses a USB controller. There is no way to disable it in the BIOS and efforts to disable it in the device manager and disable all drivers from loading at boot have been unfruitful. "
uncle bill has a special update for this issue (Base article KB899179)
from: http://www.notebookforums.com/thread169159.html

I removed all my USb hardware and it worked. NOw ill try the win update.
