I have an Acer laptop, and lately, for no reason, the screen just goes all black. It's not turning off, since everything else is working. But for some reason, the screen goes completely black. It happens the most when I push the screen part of the laptop down and up, and when I pick it up and feel the bottom of the laptop to check how warm it is.

For the past few days, it seems to be doing it randomly. Like, when I turn the laptop on, the screen is black, and when I adjust the screen, the black goes away for a second but then it comes back. After around maybe a minute or so trying to get the black to go away, the screen will be normal and you'd never know something was wrong with it.

Anybody know what's wrong? I'm using an Acer Aspire 3000 if that matters, and I got it in the Summer of 2005 and I use it very often. Everyday in fact. I don't know if ti matters or not, but when it gets hot and I put it into standby, I flip it upside down and place it on my bed or a table so that the air can get to the bottom of my laptop.

How would I go about fixing it? Could I get a step-by-step tutorial or something?

I was thinking maybe it's because I use it too much, and therefore I was gonna try to leave my laptop off all day tomorrow and see if it made a difference.

I can't help your problem, but I have one of my own. I can't find a way to post a question, so I'm getting thru yours, if you don't mind.
I live in New Zealand where I'm a daily newspaper journalist. I bought an Acer Aspire 3004MLi laptop two years ago. I've had no probolems with it whatsoever until recently I made some home movies with a Sony Handycam. They saved ok but I can't burn anything to a RW DVD. I'm using Sony brand discs purchased from my supermarket. It gets 60% way thru the burn and then freezes. Another programme says it can 't identify a DVD burner on the computer. So, do I even have this facility and how do I verify it? The sticker on the computer states: DVD-Dual (support VDV+R Double Layer/DVD+RW).
I'm stuck mates. Grateful for any useful advice.

It could be the close lid switch is dirty or intermittent. This is a tiny button that is visible near the power switch just to the left of center above the keyboard. There has been many instances of this switch giving problems.
It is easily cleaned with a special can of spray designed for electronics. Do not use any other kind or it may damage you computer. Check with a electronics service shop in your area. The cover is easily snapped off to access the swithes above the keyboard.
