All I can say is that it worked![]()
I've been tryin', readin', & askin' about how to do this since I got it(not that long but hey).
Well when I got my baby(see sig), it came with a 160gb HD, well I wanted to put my 640gb HD in....no problem, but I wanted to keep the "factory" setup for the next person to own my baby when I upgrade to better things(but not just put the original drive in a drawer) so I tried Ghost(my favorite) no go, but I tried "Acronis True Image 11" that I had and I got it to work![]()
Keep in mind that I do have an "LG" usb dvdrw drive, but that was my whole point, to make a dvd backup set to put ANY HD back to factory settings w/alt+f10 intact.
What I did was boot Acronis from the bootable disk(that you have to make) and do a backup to dvd's. This is with the original HD installed. Other than telling it to copy the whole drive(mbr & all, 3 partitions) I just can't remember what settings I used (I did it SO many times), but after burning 4 dvd's and swapping HD's all I had to do was boot off of the Acronis disk and point it to the dvd files and keep swapping disks. In the end I have a 250gb seagate drive that's setup just like the original(temporary, just to test that it worked). I just ran the f10 thing on 1st boot and it installed just like out of the box![]()
Sorry I don't have exact details on every step but I've been tryin' to get this to work for a week now. But now I have a virgin oem HD and dvd's to make any HD that way![]()

Acronis will backup anything and ajust it to its new drive as long as the space is oke , and all acer images are 50g max

I know that that is what's supposed to happen and I never had a problem with "normal" imaging (no hidden partitions, no special mbr's, no F key restore), but this thing bout drove me batty, and from what I've read in here & out there, getting a working OEM disk image(w/ operable restore partition) burnt to dvd ain't always that easy. I now can use the original HD for other purposes and still be able to image it back to original status for warranty work or resale.
Not meaning to sound rude, but don't knock it till you try it.
I replaced HD & kept f10 recovery
