I use very seldom my TM8204WLMI without AC power supply. At the end of September 2006 I could boot my laptop without AC power supply (BIOS 3319). At the end of January 2007 I got IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL blue screen when I try to boot the PC power supply (BIOS 3517). Even if I disconnect AC power supply the booted PC, I got the same “blue screen”.

Please, help me to solve this vexatious problem.

This error is almost always a hardware error. Most commonly it is the CPU overheating. A close second would be bad RAM and since yours occurs when trying to boot it's probably a RAM issue. See if you can borrow other RAm and see if the machine will boot with the replacement RAM - if it does then you know it's the RAM.
If it doesn't next step would be to go imto the BIOS, load Fail-Safe defaults, disable the onboard modem, sound and Lan and try booting again. If it boots enable one device at a time till you get the error and you'll have identified the problem.
Good luck and keep us posted.

    Thanks for the answer.
However, if it is a hardware error, why I get IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL only when I boot on batteries? When I boot with plugged AC power supply, everything is OK.

Maybe your battery is supplying enough power to boot, but only with errors. Battery going bad?

Have you updated any drivers lately? Specifically video drivers? I got the exact same error when I accidentally botched up an Omega driver update on my own TM8204. It may be that you simply need to do a clean install of your video card drivers.

BTW, not really relevant, but how does IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL indicate hardware failure? I'm curious because I would think an error like that indicates an IRQ conflict, which usually has little to do with failing hardware. Enlighten me :D

I said that based on my own experience in troubleshooting these errors. If you do a google search for the error you'll find lots of people saying the same thing ie: usually a hardware/ram issue although it could be drivers as well.
The article from Smart Computing magazine also confirms the error usually means a hardware component problem:

Sorry I can't give you a morer specific answer.

So I went ahead and googled some stuff myself because I could be doing better things, but I'd rather not, and I'm also curious. Here are some better explanations to anyone else who gets this IRQL BSOD.

http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/driver/kernel/IRQL.mspx <--Technical explanation of IRQL in Window's kernel, probably want to avoid
http://www.pcformat.co.uk/tips/defa...id=16167&subsectionid=688&subsubsectionid=488 <---No really scary techno speak, yay!! ^_^

So it seems IRQL errors are software based, specifically drivers. Thanks for your response though, spud.

Interesting article Zoomastogophora especially the second one from PC Format magazine .
So here we have 2 conflicting opinions from leading computer magazines - SmartComputing saying they are hardware related and PC Format saying they are software related .... isn't computer troubleshooting fun..LOL

OK. Probably that is hardware error, probably – software error. Nevertheless, why it happen only under a battery drive?

Jivedaddy may have hit on the answer - something to do with the battery - can you get the output checked and see if it's up to scratch?

Bad drivers mostly...ATI Catalyst is the culprit if it does bluescreen while on battery

Thank you. I should try to uninstall Radeon Omega Drivers 3.8.330 (Catalyst 7.1) and then install the original ATI 8.231. :)
