    Hi,

Please pardon my noobness in advance :)

I have this infrared receiver on my laptop, and i was wondering what's it good for ?

i figured there are 'special' remotes for media center and such, but in general, is it possible to use Any remote(from tv/vcr/etc) to access this IR port (to control volume on laptop, maybe media player control features, shortcuts, etc) ?

I really don't know how this thing works, and googling on the subject didn't help so far.

    thank you !
