a recoery disk does NOT equal an origional windows disk EVER. You'll need to find the oem disks for the particular operating system + version + driver + software to get it back to the way you want from a "fresh" install.

Remember...... recovery != origional media install ever.

you have several options avalible to you. If you are in the USA you have the DMCA on your side - http://www.copyright.gov/legislation/dmca.pdf

If you go to a brick and mortar store that repairs laptops in your area ask them to burn you a copy of the media for your laptop. Under the DMCA clause of home / personal use you are allowed to make a backup for personal archive purposes.

Because you already own a license for the software you just need the media. Bring a blank cd / dvd with you and ask them to burn you a copy. It is like going to a locksmith to get a second key cut for your car. You own the car the key just unlocks it.

If they refuse or ask you to purchase a second license tell them that they simply wish to make a buck off you and that you will take your business elsewhere. For my pc repair shop we hand out the media to people who bring in their pc's (laptop / desktop) with the COA's and certificate on their pc's.

If you still can't get a hold of a disk send me a pm and I'll offer you a few more suggestions.

Hope this helps clear it up

Um, just so you know even a brand new one won't have the XP media with it.

    I knew that.. Just... I don't know.

I don't even plan on calling anymore, because I have the warranty, and as well, the laptop works, why take it back for one that might not work..
