The case with my 5920g was that during a video game, my laptop suddenly died. And when i turned it on, my screen had white / grey lines all over it after a normally looking bootsplash screen. And my screens resolution was set to VGA (or less possibly, im not quite sure.) I read on the internet that this almost 100% means that my GPU burned out.

So, ive been looking at some possible replacement cards.

My machine originally had a 8600m gs card in it.

Now i have found an AMD 4650 and a 4570 and i have read they should both run on the laptop.

I also found an 9300m gs, and an old 8600m gs

Now im most keen to use a nvidia graphic card, since im sure it will work with my laptop. My question is, would it matter if i took an AMD card. And should i? (they are significantly cheaper.)

And possibly, could i upgrade to an even faster (other) card?

    Thanks in advance.

Visit this thread for details- it has success stories of upgrades applied to your laptop.
The best card you can upgrade to that is available is ATI HD4650 (or 4670 if you manage to find one)
It would be better than any of the nVidia cards you can put there (9600M GT included)

Ok I found plenty of 4650 cards on ebay, but they are all type A mxm cards. And I know my old 8600gs was a type ii card. But will it still fit?

No it won't. Read the second post of the thread I've linked in my previous post.
    You need MXM-II.
